Good location, inexpense hotel in Bangkok
Please help with recommendations for a hotel with good location and inexpensive.
Good location: River or near shopping with night markets. Inexpensive: $25 to $75. I was debating to try Priceline for a River hotel but it doesnt guarantee a River hotel. Bossetel Hotel has available 5 nights starting 12/31/03 with temple view. What about Royal River Hotel? Both are about under $50 I think. I like charming small hotels rather than a high rise hotel. Also like to shop shop shop and want to be in a location where I dont have to spend all my time traveling to get to a shopping area. Thank you.

i have stayed at the royal river hotel, if that is what you are asking about??/ it is a high rise, maybe 10-12 floors...it is on opposite side of river to most hotels and i would not think it is an area to do any shopping for westerners....
they have a good restaurant, several in fact...basic not gourmet, although they have a french restaurant on a high floor which was reasonable and good....we were the only people there the nite we ate there....
the room was very large and overlooked the river...you could jump from the balcony directly into the river if you wanted---ugh....
it was a basic hotel, but clean and comfortable....the pool was a little larger than my bathtub at home....no atmosphere...just to cool off...
have you seen the threads about centre point---iknow the building and the location, but have never been inside....i think it might be just what you want....at end of silom road not far from the shangra-la...perfect location....much better than the bossetel, i should think and with a kitchen....what more could you ask....also if you wanted to be near sukumvit there is the other place mentioned on the same thread on soi 16...

Re Centre Court Silom - they do not rent the studio apt (approx $68 per night) during 12/31/03. The one bedroom at the Centre Court is available at approximately $86 per night. The place looks great. But I'm the type I'm hardly ever in the hotel. My husband tho likes to go back to the hotel while I'm shopping.

Isis, the 1 BR is huge, as I've said on other threads. I have stayed in US hotels in "1BR suites" that consisted of a tiny living room with a small separate bedroom. Centre Point 1BR consists of:
*a small living room (large enough for couch, couple of armchairs, coffee table, tv)
*a separate dining area (large enough for a table for 4, set with china and glassware etc)
*a separate kitchen area with full-size fridge, stove, washer/dryer, sink, counter, cabinets etc
*a bedroom as large as any I've seen in a hotel
*a separate dressing room between the bedroom and bathroom, with 2 closets, mirrors, etc.
*spacious marble bathroom with tub and separate stall shower.
There are more shelves, closets, and cabinets than you could fill in several weeks of shopping!
Just so you know...
