Easily for me the best curries are Panang Beef or Chicken and Mussamun Beef or Chicken (with large Potatoes and Peanuts)

I think you meant to say, "poo pad pong" for crab and "goong kung pad pong" for shrimp. Nuea is beef.

Massaman is my favorite . Panang curry is actually not the same thing. Close but not the same and, to my mind, not nearly as good.

I like Mussamun too. Penang is definitely not the same thing. It's more like red curry, but the finished curry should be served with lots of fresh Thai basil (horopa).

Also, in Chiang Mai, Hung Lei curry is very good.

Well I stand corrected! I always thought the Massaman was basically panang with potatoes...

I just remember eating alot of both of them when traveling through southern Thailand. I thought that they were just different versions of the same dish.

R - I'm surprised your Thai friend would write down Nuea for Crab or Shrimp. Nuea is definitely beef.

I love all the curries. I choose which curry to order depensing in part on what I want in the curry. So, for instance, duck goes very well with a red curry, as do prawns; I like chicken in green curry or in Penang curry.

I do make Thai curries at home, easy to make and so yummy.
