Favorite side trips from Singapore?

My husband is going to Singapore for business in May. I am thinking about joining him for a vacation afterward. We've both spent lots of time in Singapore before, so we'd like to go somewhere else in Asia, but the endless possibilities are overwhelming. So I ask the forum: what are your favorite destinations that are an easy flight from Singapore?

My top pick destinations would be Bali, Bangkok and Siem Reap (Angkor), but, really, you will have many options.

May is a great month for Bali. Good weather and before the tourist crush. You could spend some time at the beach and inland in the Ubud area.

The Ubud Food Festival will take place from May 12 to 14, which is a wonderful event if you're interested in Southeast Asian cuisine. If that doesn't appeal, then avoid Ubud during that time.

Warm Friday greetings from our fine home of Singapore to the OP - and hope your husband enjoys his business stay in our city-state. Love living in Singapore.

You have received some excellent suggestions. Will add a place I've enjoyed since a childhood visit in the 1960's, the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Bangkok. My most recent work-related stay was ~two months back; special as ever. Would be happy to offer specific room and suite suggestions.

Another unique Bangkok property is The Siam; we shared the Loy Krathong celebration with her last November. Given your stated holiday timeframe of May, you may find some attractive offers at The Siam (and Oriental).

Enjoy your planning. Early weekend wishes to you from Singapore,

robert
