Any estimates of how much time I would need for connection times between flights in Kunming airport?

Not an overly large airport but the English signage are very few so I would be prepare for that.

When I flew through it in 2006, it was like most other regional Chinese airports where you are dumped into the baggage claim area. You have to claim your bags, go to regular check-in counters for the 2nd flight and then reclear security.

If you want to eat, there are restaurants on the second floor..look up from the huge main floor area. No signage in English but they are bound to have better food than the western-style coffee shops on the main floor.

Just got back from 4 weeks of independent travel in China (trip report pending). We took 7 flights (prebooked). Kunming airport was the one airport we had delays, and there were a lot of flight delays the days we were there. We allowed 1 1/2 hours between flights on one occasion and we missed it as the incoming flight was delayed. Our connecting flight was also delayed but not enough. Not a lot of English spoken but we went to connecting flight desk and for $20 more, we got booked on a later flight (also slightly delayed). Lesson learned--allow 3-4 hours between connecting flights and expect anything!
