Birds in Burma?
For those of you who have been to Inle and Bagan, are we likely to see a fair number of interesting birds? Amazon (who knows way too much about me) sent me a notice about the availability of a book on the birds of Burma. We saw lots of birds in Sri Lanka and bought a bird book there. We took a bird book to Borneo, but saw few birds... hard to see them in the rainforest.

The really striking birdlife I noticed in Yangon was hundreds of ravens nesting in trees around the lake. As for serious birding, I didn't notice much. I don't think I was in the best setting (mostly areas that were fairly densely populated).

Inle is a nature reserve, technically at least! You tour the lake by motorised (loud) canoe so if there are any birds about ... the engine noise will scare them off. I shouldn't think you'd see much around Bagan - nothing very interesting anyhow. There is a good waterbird sanctuary not far from Bago if you're heading that way and Mount Victoria (accessable from Bagan by tour)is renowned as a good birdwatching site. *This area needs a permit to visit so you'll have to book and arrange the tour more that one month in advance.
