Big Quake near Jakarta

I just read in the NYT about a big quake near Jakarta, about 7.5. Marmot, others, are you ok?

Thanks, Kathie, Reading your message is the first I'm hearing about this so we must have slept through the whole shakeup!

I'm sure I'll hear about it when I get to my office which is on the 17th floor. We often have shake, rattle and roll moments which are absolutely terrifying.

First I've heard of it too and we live on Sumatra. Seems we're the last to know when a quake hits Indonesia (unless we feel it of course).

Glad to hear that Marmot and Melnq8 are well.....
I was in Jakarta many years ago and slept thru not 1, but 2 not insignificant earthquakes

Marmot, was this earthquake considered a major one for Jakarta? I've experienced smaller, shorter ones before but this one was a bit scary. Our our apartment swayed side to side for a whole minute. The doors were swinging too.

travelmug, It's hard to compare since this time I didn't feel a thing. Other quakes have given my house (two stories) a good jolt. I understand that people on high floors felt it but I didn't get an overwhelming "fear and loathing" response so I assume it wasn't too severe.
