When I'm flying to Singapore, from L.A., flights usually arrive around 3:25AM, but I then just sleep at the transit hotel inside of the airport until it's time for me to wake up and walk to the gate of my Bangkok flight. But, Singapore Air contacted me in early July of a flight change and now I'll leave early morning and arrive into Singapore the night before.

Now with the new arrival time and date, I had to book a hotel room and then I had Singapore Air change my next-day flight, on to Bangkok, from an early-morning one to a late afternoon one. That way I'll get more time to sleep and also relax in my Four Season's room before going back to the airport to fly on to Bangkok.

I actually much prefer the 3:25AM arrival flights over the night-before arrival flights as when I arrive at 3:25AM, I don't clear customs, can't pick up luggage as it's not released, don't need to take a taxi to a hotel and back to the airport, and don't have to pay for a hotel room in the city for such a short period of time. I prefer to just sleep at the transit hotel of which I've been doing for years.

Happy Travels!

so if I arrive at around 6 am cant I use facilities at the hotel and just store my bags?
Still leaning toward Ritz Club level as reviews are excellent. Some reviews on four seasons describe it as a bit worn down. My experience with FS has always been great so if Guenmai you can give me some room tips I will contact the hotel and see what they can offer. Is overlooking the Marina overrated?

I am sure you can store your bags and yes most probably you can use a courtesy room to clean up. However what about an early check-in?

Singapore is a small place and except for far away places like the Night Safari or zoo you're never more than a 15-20 taxi or subway ride from wherever you want to go.

I haven't stayed at the Ritz Carlton but I've looked at the rooms and yes, the views are breathtaking. I found the restaurant ambiance to be a bit cold, but I try to spend as little time in hotel restaurants as possible as a general rule.

I wouldn't characterize the Four Seasons decor as "worn down" but it's definitely a more classic, comfortable style (think overstuffed sofas and ginger jar lamps) than the Ritz Carlton's hard edge contemporary design.

I personally prefer the walking distance neighborhood around the Four Seasons to the Ritz' immediate surroundings, but as I said, you're not far by taxi or MTR from any attractions.

The FS will definitely store your bags before your room is ready. They may allow you to use the facilities at the pool, fitness center or spa. Actually a spa treatment would be a great way to start off. I've found them pretty rigid on early check-in (meaning they wouldn't allow it) but I guess it depends on their occupancy level.

"Still leaning toward Ritz Club level as reviews are excellent. Some reviews on four seasons describe it as a bit worn down"

As for a bit worn down, these days if hotels aren't sparkling new, then many times they are pegged as a bit worn down. I had absolutely no problem with the hotel's look and was more than happy to stay at a hotel that didn't have the typical, cookie-cutter, sterile, cold look. I call it character instead of looking a bit worn down.

For me, it's about the service, food, room size, and with this hotel, the quiet location as Singapore hotels can be really busy. It's not like it's located in an area where tons of tourists are walking by it or tons of non-guest are coming in and out of it as looky-loos.

As for rooms, I didn't write down the room numbers that I had, but the room with the large bedroom, two bathrooms, desk area, living room, and dining room was great. I had initially booked a standard room, but was upgraded, upon arrival, to that suite and negotiated free breakfast buffet to be thrown into the mix.

Another room that I remember was a similar suite, but was smaller than the above one, but I was fine with it and it was also an upgrade, upon check in from the standard room that I had booked . When I got back to my rooms, after a long day out, I felt like I was coming home and not back to a sterile hotel room as the rooms have a warm, homey feel.

Happy Travels!

The above one is one of the ones that I was upgraded to upon check in. I loved that one. It was 91 square meters.

>>>I'll take those room suggestions at the Four Seasons

Early Friday morning greetings from our fine home of Singapore to you, Guenmai; apologies for not replying sooner, as have been on the road for work. (And thank you kindly for your years of visiting and supporting our city-state of SIN, along with flying our cherished Singapore Airlines. Am looking forward to flying SQ's soon-to-launch SIN-SFO non-stops for work.)

Concerning rooms/suites at the Four Seasons, Singapore, was also partial to the One-Bedroom Suite you mentioned; particularly a quiet favourite on the 18th floor. Other lodgings that were ideal for my working stays were some Executive Suites on floor 18, along with appreciated upgrades to two special suites located on the 19th floor, a Governor Suite, along with an Ambassador Suite. Every corporate stay at the FS, SIN was so efficient and enjoyable.

[In keeping with the Four Seasons spirit, enjoyed another seamless business travel stay at the FS, Seoul last week. Great property, with some good friends, managers and staff who used to be with the former FS in Bangkok, along with her Singapore and Tokyo sisters.]

Enjoy your SIN planning. Early and warm weekend wishes from Singapore,

robert

Guenmai, soooo true what you write about "worn down." Ha!! Like that vague, obnoxious term "dated." Anything older than today is "dated"! Heck...we are all " dated!" Follow the money trail. It's all about profiting from tearing down or remodeling the "worn" and "dated" and full of character, to be placed by the sparkling, brand new, cookie cutter look!

Julia Jane,in answer to your question, yes, overlooking the Marina is overrated, IMHO!!
In fact, at the hotel where I stayed (Pan Pacific) I changed from a room with Marina Bay view to one without, because the additional charge for that particular view was not worth even the minimal extra cost. Imagine a cruise ship stuck atop an unattractive skyscraper...that's the view of the Marina Bay Hotel. Big deal.

CaliNurse, my answer would be, no, it's not at all overrated if it can be combined with an ocean view. I LOVED my view of the Marina and the ocean. Watching the Singapore Flyer and the ships out on the water, as well as the Marina, was one of my favourite things to do in my hotel room when I got up in the morning and when I got back to the room at night.

It's clear the Four Seasons is popular with some of the travellers here, but I didn't find it all that appealing. And I would not choose the hotel in the hope of getting a free upgrade to a large suite plus other munificent perks on a first visit.

I didn't choose the Four Seasons in order to possibly get a free upgrade. I chose it for the reasons that I stated upthread and it delivered. I've stayed at more than a few Four Seasons properties around the world of which have suited me more than fine. Now, as far as having a marina view and all, that doesn't speak to me, but to each his own. Different strokes for different folks.

Happy Travels!

We all have our likes and dislikes and hey as long as you are happy with your choice and no one else in on the hook for the bill then go for it.

Cheers, Larry. .

Thank you Cali!

You know we have seen quite a bit. For example we once had a post op heart who we had to fluid restrict. Well this gal you could not say no to so she drank her low dose dopamine. I don't know whet that means to most but you know what it means to us!! .

OK, back to the thread but forgive me for this injection of hospital humor. .

If you haven't already booked we would highly recommend the Conrad. We usually stay here in the club rooms when visiting Singapore.

We found the lounge quieter than other hotels with a relaxed atmosphere. Staff are attentive and the food is great.

Compared to some of the more modern hotels you may think the rooms are a little dated - but I'd be more inclined to call them old school luxury.

When you walk out from the hotel Suntec City is right across the road, along with Millenia Walk. There are also 2 MRT stations surrounding it - Promenade and Esplanade. If you go to the Esplanade MRT you can actually walk all the way to Raffles City undergound (great for those hot days).

We have arrived early in the morning on a couple of occasions and they have always had our room available. And if you're flying out late you can sit in the club lounge and use the shower facilities in gym. Though I'm sure most hotels with club lounges will offer this.

We recently stayed at The Westin in their club room and while it was enjoyable, it was much busier and not as personal. However the rooms are amazing and very large.

We have also stayed at Marina Bay and do not rate it. It's extremely busy (the club lounge was more like a cafe and some people couldn't even get in). The view is outstanding though.
