Hotel for two night stop over in Singapore

First post on the forum. We are taking advantage of Singapore Airline's stopover package for a two night stay on our way to San Francisco. My choices are the Pan Pacific or The Fairmont. We would probably choose Club level in either hotel. They both seem like nice places. I would appreciate comments and thoughts about which would be best for a very short stay and a first visit to Singapore.
Many thanks!

My preference would be the Fairmont. Not only is it a lovely hotel, but its location can't be beat. Located above a metro station, transport couldn't be any easier. There is also a nice shopping center below the hotel and you are walking distance from Raffles Hotel.

Hi Werth
I've stayed at the Pan Pacific (assume you mean the one on Raffles, not Orchard). Beautiful rooms, generally great --even outstanding-- people working there, which is important to me. Although I stayed, and loved it, I wouldn't stay there again. Too "concrete jungle" (the Suntec Towers surround it) location, and too far a walk to the places that interested me. I too would chose Fairmont!

Definitely the Fairmont for me. Although, I've stayed at a lot of hotels in Singapore, at Fairmont level, and lower and higher levels, I've stayed at the Fairmont quite a bit and will have a week there in the winter at Club level.

Happy Travels!

Forgot to add that there's a big grocery store, in the mall, underneath the Fairmont. I go there for cold drinks, sushi, sandwiches, and other snacks. Plus, there's also a really good food court down there. And the best is that the MRT (subway) is directly below that whole complex.

Happy Travels!

Thanks Guenmai for the tips!

It looks like the Fairmont is the winner.

Excited about this trip!

Werth: Have fun in Singapore. Although I've been going there since the 90s, I always look forward to going back, along with the Southeast Asia region in general. Was in the region from Dec-Feb on this last vacation. Smiles.

Happy Travels!

Warm morning greetings from our fine home of Singapore to the OP, werth, and warm welcome to Fodor's. Well done on flying our sensational Singapore Airlines and utilizing her SIA Stopover Holiday before flying on to San Francisco (a place I fly SQ for work on a regular basis). Should be a fine time for you.

You should enjoy your stay at the Fairmont. She's been undergoing some renovations over the past two years; would suggest contacting the hotel for the latest and most desirable rooms / suites. Her Executive Lounge is a welcome retreat.

[In keeping with the Singapore Airlines spirit, this Saturday marks what should be an enjoyable "Open House" for the general public at the SIA Training Centre. For those of you who have tickets for this sold-out event in honour of our various Singapore anniversary festivities, enjoy. My modest professional and personal SIA biases aside, have always found various sections of the Training Centre most enlightening and evolving. Great friends and staff at that centre. More info via: siaopenhouse dot com/ Love that (SIA) aviation industry for work and holiday.]

Savor your planning, werth; happy for you. Warm Thursday wishes to you and all from Singapore,

macintosh (robert)

We stayed at the sister hotel next to the Fairmont. Swissotel the Stamford. The service was the best we have had. wonderful staff but I think that is a Singapore trait.

If you stay at the Fairmont have high tea at Raffles across the road. You need to book and it is pricey but the ambience and décor is superb.

Taxis are clean, cheap and the drivers courteous and full of information.

have fun

Wanted to update this thread on what we ended up doing.

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental and loved it. Lovely service. Impressive views from the Marina Bay rooms. Great pool.
The breakfast buffet at Melt is AMAZING.
I really liked Singapore and I can't wait to go back for a longer visit.
Thanks,
werth

btw...october_fun, your comment about the taxi drivers being full of information is so true! The drivers we had were very chatty and super friendly. It was great fun and a nice change from what I am used to.
