Help - especially from JamesA - was reading your comments on Hua Hin - a couple of questions for you (any anyone else pls) Am arriving in BKK around 7pm - is that a little too late to start heading off down to Hua Hin & if not what is the most economical way of transfer there? also was reading your comments re Bungalows - interested in staying a few nights in Hua Hin but don't want the 5 star resort style - maybe more on the beach with a pool - any suggestions.

Just a thought hibikki - your questions are interesting and may well get lost at the end of this post - maybe post a new question - "Hua Hin logistics - advice needed" or something
We have a driver taking us through to Hua Hin - seems to be about a 2 hour drive - I am sure the Fodors people would be able to give you a contact number for a driver
Good luck

If yuo arrive at the airport at 7 pm that's no problem, you can just get a taxi or limo from the taxi/limo counters at fixed rates down to Hua hin, in the evening it should be quick ( though not friday nights as the road can be very busy indeed with weekenders heading down there ).
There are cheaper way, express bus from the South bus terminal, that means taxi from airport and then about 3 hrs 15 mins on the bus ( about USD 5.75 ).
There are smaller resort places ( well small size hotels with a swimming pool ) on the beach like Kaban Tamor / S'Mor Spa which is quiet and relaxing, Baan Talay Dao is anoth, though the layout of Kaban Tamor / S'Mor Spa is much nicer as more 'open feel' and has a wider stretch at the beach, from both you take steps onto the beach. Both quite nice but Kaban Tamor / S'Mor spa has the edge and they have the nice spa too. Pools at both are quite small.
Bungalows near the beach ( not right on the beach ) tend to be a few km further on but they don't have swimming pools though some have something like perhaps a small spa pool in the garden, but you get your own place and nice service.
What is your budget ?

Some of the rooms at S'Mor spa have their own jacuzzis. Do advise your budget as that is a great help in suggesting places. Also what time of year as rates can depend on season, in some cases weekends can be more at 'some' places.http://www.huahinwhatson.com/hua_hin_hotels.html has some ideas, but if you give us your budget that mean a lot.

Big furry mammals should be seen--preferably not in a Speedo--and not heard.

Any more derogatory comments about the Scots and

Aff wi yer heid!!!!

Unbelievably enough, I payed rugby with many a scot. Aside from treating me like an infection, they were quite amusing. They pretended to be amused by me as well.

I had forgotten that you played rugby.

Without a helmet I presume--which would explain quite a lot about your big furry mammal delusions!!

I'd like to point out that large furry mammals are the highest form of evolved life. There's a reason why Darwin did not sail on the Beagle to Scotland. No evolution there whatsoever.

If only they would confine this type of nonsense to north of hadrian's Wall. there's a reason why they built that thing. Sort of like a Rhino enclosure.

Contrary to public perception, Hadrian's Wall was built by the Scots to keep the G**D*** English out of our fair land.

If I recall correctly, when the European soccer championships were held in England in 2000, three things were banned from the stadiums: alcohol, weapons, and bagpipes!

A Scot does not have a sufficiently deveoped central nervous system to realize how annoying bagpipes are. They used them in battle to induce pity.
