Bangkok Travel according to the New York Times
As a religious follower of the New York Times Travel section (as well as a frequent traveller to Bangkok, Thailand), I have compiled a collection of my favourite articles in the Times written about the 'Big Mango' that I hope you all might find useful.

Rats! Now Chote Chitr will start getting crowded with farangs. Fortunately it is very difficult to find, so hopefully all those other people will never find it.
I do have to chuckle at some of their recommendations, such as in the part about having a drink at the Oriental, "Have a Singapore Sling — if not here, then where? " apparently forgetting that the Singapore Sling was invented in (ahem) SIngapore at Raffles Hotel.
And of course, they have to recommend Cabbages and Condoms. Great cause, mediocre bland food. I guess after recommending Chote Chitr they needed something for the masses.
I always enjoy the NYT travel section. Thanks for the links.

Wishful thinking about Chote Chitr, Kathie. I've been to a couple of very hard-to-find places mentioned in the NY Times, even in scary dark areas that took ages to find. Once inside, the places were swarming with New Yorkers, clipped article in hands!

Neopatrick - once you get to the map, you should be able to click on the recommendations (red dots).

I'll be interested to see, LA. Chote Chitr was first written up in the NYT 5 years ago. I feared it would soon be overrun. But while a number of Fodorites have been there, I've never seen another farang there in my visits, nor I have seen any visitors with a block or two...

We were in Bangkok last week (hopefully will post the JBR later today) .... and Chote Chitr was on my list of places to go. We went on a sunday but it was closed, and there was another farang couple doing the same exact thing.
We went back a few days later for lunch and the place was full of tourists (all 4 tables!).
So the "secret" is out .... but the food was still great.

Admittedly, there's no bigotry or prejudice, but how is it that Bob has traveled so often and Twain's words seem not to have had any effect on the narrow-mindedness? Maybe he hasn't goten to enough places.

Here is a site with some more maps of great food places
http://importfood.com/thonglor_guide.html
Just around the corner is a place with amazing coconut ice cream and also another place with amazing mango & sticky rice. Both have been around forever apparently. I spoke to the lady with the coconum ice cream & she told me she was the 3rd generation making the ice cream in the same spot!
2 great options after a lunch at Chote Chitr.
