Need sightseeing advice in Singapore & Bangkok
Message: What is the Jim Thompson house that I keep reading about on this message board. I will be going to Bangkok and Singapore on July 12 for 2 weeks, and I would also like reccomendations on where to go, and what I should definitely not miss seeing in each city. Thanks

Hi, Singapore is a multi-racial society, so you should go visit all the little areas like Chinatown, Little India and the Malay Village. Sentosa, the offshore island is also worth a visit. Make sure you see the humongous Merlion!
And there are lots of places for good eats, like Newton Circus and Holland Village. Let me know if you want more info on anything in Singapore.
As for Bangkok, most people go there for the shopping. During the weekend the largest flea market, Chaktuchat (must have mispelled this) takes place and you should go see that. Its an absolute maze!
Both Singapore and Bangkok are good places to shop if you are looking to buy things.

Singapore is beautiful. Very clean and very modern. Go to the basement level at the huge marble shopping malls to the 'hawkers'...the best food in a food court setting. Dirt cheap.

Remember, leave all your chewing gum at home. It is against the law in Singapore.

Go visit the Raffles Hotel. Very upscale shops, beautiful bars. I loved the mellow atmosphere. Take a river boat cruise at sunset. And the Night Safari is a lot of fun. Any taxi will take you there and there are plenty of taxis to return with.

Safe trip.
