Managing Malaysia!!!

Hoping to go on a trip in jan with my husband
We are thinking of flying to Singapore 3 nights then flight to langkwie (spelling!!) then ferry to Penang georgetown as a base 4 nights flight to kuala lumpa 3 nights
Is this a reasonable itinerary to get a feel for the place?
Any changes ideas gratefully accepted not sure if we are trying to fit too much in

You will get a better feel going overland. Fly into Singapore, express bus to Melaka, bus to K.L., train to Georgetown, ferry to Langkawi. Maybe train onto Bangkok and fly home from there. Or skip Singapore (Disneyland Asia in my mind) in favor of Bangkok and start in K.L.

Yes, I find it reasonable.

I love Georgetown and have been going for the past 3 years of trips straight. I have also been in KL several times, as I first went to KL, in the early 2000s and was last there in Jan 2016. I have not been on Langkawi yet, but might eventually get there.

I love traveling to Malaysia. I combine it on my 6-week, Bangkok/Singapore trips as it's easy to fly to from Bangkok and then on to Singapore. It will be really hot in January. I was last there in Jan 2017. Downpours are common, but they usually come and go pretty fast. I've never let weather deter me from going and enjoying myself.

Have fun!

Happy Travels!

As for Singapore, I personally would not skip Singapore. I'm one who likes Singapore and have been going regularly since the late 90s. To each his own. And for the amount of time that you seem to have, londonbug, I'd keep Singapore in and leave Bangkok for another time or who knows, maybe you've already been to Bangkok and don't need to include it on your upcoming trip.

Happy Travels!

I don't much care for Bangkok either, and have enjoyed the museums and parks in Singapore, but I find Bangkok more "Asian". It is not clear whether this is a first trip to Malaysia, or to Asia. But definitely YMMV.

We just left Penang a couple of days ago. It was maybe our fourth visit and we were quite disappointed as to the way the place had changed compared with our previous visits, (the last two years ago). It has changed a lot, a little tired and down at heel. For a Unesco World Heritage Site, they are not looking after it very well.

Langkawi is a great place for beach life with some world class hotels and the weather should be pretty good in January. As mentioned above the ferry between Langkawi and Penang is an excellent way to travel, far better than plane or bus. The train is also a good option from Penang to KL

Like Thursdaysd, I am not a fan of Singapore and find it all rather antiseptic and bland. I quite like KL, but appreciate that it is not to everyone's taste. Agree that Melaka would make an interesting stop if you have the time.

Are you trying to fit in too much? Possibly. 3 nights in a place only gives you 2 full days in a place. You can pretty much write off a day every time you change location, regardless of the mode of transportation.
