Bangkok NYE - special meal?

Hi

I'm looking for a good place to book a special meal when we are in Bangkok on New Year's Eve (Dec 31st). Total budget of around 6000B ideally Thai or Asian food.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Cathy

Most of the top hotels have special meals that are mandatory if you are a guest. So do many of the top restaurants.

The river has fireworks so a spot where you can see them would be a good choice.

Sirocco is not Thai or Asian.

Places I love include: Mahanaga (they say it's Thai fusion, but all the food we had was more Thai than fusion). A lovely garden setting with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Lana Thai at Face

The China House at the Oriental Hotel.

Many people like The Blue Elephant, but I haven't eaten there in about 20 years, so can't comment on the food.

i would stay away from hotels generally for that nite because of their meals...

make sure your hotel does not have a mandatory evening meal which many do that nite!!??

there is a wonderful newish restaurant in the lower level of the gaysorn plaza which simpson has written about...maybe she can chime in on it again..

face restaurants on soi 39, sukhumvit rd...

at 42 convent road there is a great thai restaurant but i don't remember the name...there are two there actually...it is right next to six degrees italian rest....

For NYE 2004 we went to the metropolitian hotel for party that had free flowing drinks and tasty canapes all prepared from their signature restaurant, Cy'an. It was probably the best canapes food we have eaten & there was so much choice we couldnt eat them all & a menu was provided prior to booking. In addition to that you get some great entertainment. If you want great food and a party I would reccomend it however cost was 5500B last year

Thanks for the advice. Another (perhaps naiive) question - how easy is it to get around Bangkok on NYE. Are taxis difficult to get hold of?

Traffic around or close to midnight on NYE will be quite slow especially if you need to cross the river since there will be a lot of fireworks and the bridges will be very crowded. Plan carefully!
