The cautions for asiarooms:
1. If you have to cancel, it will take much patience to receive your refund, so only book when you are sure.
2. A number of people have recently had experiences of the website giving a very low rate, but then when asiarooms confirms, the rate is significantly higher.

You didn't mention any specific country in Asia, but if you are traveling in Thailand, I definitely recommend www.farangs.com for hotels. We used Asia Rooms Onine until I heard about this company. It is owned by DirectRooms. We have used it exclusively for the last 4 years while living in Thailand and we book probably every other month. I have never found better prices and the security is great. I also never had a problem at any of the hotels we used through them. Good luck!

You can check them out by searching Asiarooms.com on forum and you will see very mixed reviews.
I was totally satisfied with sawadee.com I understand it is part of precision.com. You only have to give 1 nights deposit after confirmed booking and balance 2 weeks prior to arrival at the "booked" hotel(s). I used then in 4 destinations in Thailand in April/May of this year and in 2004.

I booked with Asiarooms last week (for Jan in Thailand) and got great service, heard back in 18 hours, and a fantastic rate. The hotel directly quoted me $147 per night plus tax (incl breakfast) but Asiarooms confirmed the same room for $99 including taxes and breakfast. We did have to pay in advance but to me it's worth it to lock in such a great rate.

Although 'some' hotels may give special offers ( usualy chain hotels ) for the rest it is usual to get a far cheaper rate through a booking service, so you can't really compare a direct rate with a hotel with the offers available.
Personaly I would not tie up money on my c/card for months ahead.
Plenty offer very good rates and you do 'not' need to give any credit card details to find what is available, then you have several days before you decide, only then do you pay usualy just 1 night deposit and the balance a couple of weeks ahead.
