That is the rack rate which excludes tax, service and breakfast. Check www.balidiscovery.com and search for the Legian in Seminyak for better rates.

They have a package with breakfast for $400.00 for a deluxe one bedroom..plus tax...21% I think, so around 484.00.
Balidiscovery.com offers the same room with breakfast and tax included for $441.00. If your $350.00 includes tax and breakfast, maybe go for it. You might also contact The Legian directly to ask them for the best rate they can give you...mention the rates you've found and that you feel better booking directly...always works for me.
Be sure you check change and cancellation policies very carefully, as they vary from booker to booker, hotel to hotel.

Lisa, There are several types of rooms at the Legian. First there's the Legian Club which is a separate villa complex across the road. The villas are associated with the regular Legian (i.e., you can use all the Legian facilites) but are in a different price structure.
The regular Legian has several room layouts. To add to the confusion they call them all suites, because they all have sitting and eating areas and kitchenettes.
The choices are basically one room, two rooms and three rooms. If you are two people, then the one room which they call a studio suite is just fine. The one or two bedrooms are great for families.
They will also add an extra bed for a charge (right now ranging between $40-55 per night, including breakfast, also negotiable).
The difference between deluxe and superior is the location. ALL the rooms have sea views and large balconies, but those on the top floor and the corners have better views. Some people like the ground floors because you can spill out of your veranda onto the extensive resort grounds. I like the top floor because the view of the sea and sunset is better when you get up over the trees.
High season in Bali is August and December with a blip at the Islamic and Chinese New Year Holidays. The rates go up during these periods. They're pretty full and thus don't negotiate too much.
For the rest of the year the rates are all over the place, but I've found this website to be a good starting place. ++ Means an additional 21% tax will be added which is is true of all hotels/resorts in Indonesia. They usually will throw in breakfast.

Sorry it took me so long to reply but I had to reset my password and it took a few days (I also had to change my user id) I probably should have told you this to begin with, the room I was quoted was a deluxe oceanview suite including breakfast for $350 plus 21% tax. Also, we will be traveling from Oct 31-Nov 10 and I know that this is the end of Ramadan, how busy will it be by the Legian. Would we be better off staying at the Ritz? Which hotel do you prefer? Thank all of you for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.

Is it a studio (one room) or one bedroom suite (separate bedroom)? If the former it's a bit high. If the latter it's a good rate.
The holidays following Ramadhan will begin around November 3. A lot of people in Islamic countries like Indonesia and Malaysia travel to Bali during this period, including expats whose schools are on holiday. Usually rates are not affected, but restaurants and resorts are busy.
Personally I like the Legian better than the Ritz because
1)The Legian is right on the beach. The Ritz is on a cliff overlooking the beach. (They have beach access but
it's a hike or a drive.)
2) The Legian is within walking distance of several great restaurants and very close to lots of shopping, spas and other restaurants. From the Ritz you need to get a taxi.
3) I like the design of Legian better -- it is elegant, understated and refined. This is purely subjective.
They're both great choices, however. Have fun!

I looked back at my email and it is the one-bedroom deluxe suite. Is the design of The Legian more Balinese than the Ritz? Is the area around The Legian like Kuta, because we are avoiding that area. For us I think it's too busy. We will be spending the first 5 nights there then 5 nights at Four Seasons Sayan.

Lisa, The one bedroom deluxe suite is very nice. Try to get on the 4th (top) floor.
Neither the Legian nor the Ritz is especially Balinese in architecture. They both have plenty of Balinese accents and accessories. I personally prefer the Legian because it is more refined and sophistocated, but this is a matter of taste. You may not agree. The websites give you a good idea of the aesthetic of each.
Both are situated in spacious properties. As I said, the Legian is right on the beach so you can walk from the main building, through the garden, to the pool (which is beautiful) to the beach. The Ritz also has nice grounds and a big, lively pool, but the beach is some distance away. Both have spectacular sunset views.
Seminyak, the area surrounding Legian has become very popular lately and there are many, many new restaurants and shops. So far, it isn't as crazy as Kuta, but it is crowded at night. Once you're on the Legian grounds, however, the world is far, far away. So you have access to civilization, but only if you choose. For my money, La Lucciola and KuDeTa are two of the best restaurants in Bali. They are both within a 10 minute walk (or 2 minute drive) of the Legian. If you quietly ask the doormen, they will drive you gratis.
The Ritz is completely isolated to itself. Some people find this appealing. I found it just that, isolating. Any excursion for restaurants or shopping required a long drive. They do have several restaurants on the property, though.
The Legian beach is long, wide and sandy. You can walk for miles in either direction. It is, at times quite busy. At other times, deserted. The surf is rough, but swimmable. I think it is extraordinarily beautiful for wave watching and sunsets, but then again, this is subjective.
The Ritz beach is a cove so it isn't the type that you take a long walk on.

Okay, so we finally booked The Legian and because we waited so long we got the Deluxe room for $400 per night. Does anyone have a recommendation of a specific room number. I already requested the top floor with a corner room based on Marmot's suggestion.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to help me. It helps so much to have someone's opinion who has actually been there.
