when to buy tickets to europe for a May trip?

Hi all,

We are planning to visit to Europe this summer (mid-may to be specific).

The itinerary would be SFO-Cairo-rom-sfo (we are also visiting cairo).

What's the best time to buy these tickets? Any suggestions?

Because of the price of oil going up,etc. I think that I would be seriously looking at tickets NOW.Too bad that you are going in mid May as I heard that Delta Airlines is starting nonstop JFK-Cairo in late May or early June?(My daughter has always wanted to go to Cairo so am still hoping to find a way!)

The best time to buy these tickets is whenever the price is good. I'm not sure what this will price out at for a multi-leg itinerary, but I would think something less than $700 for the SFO-europe would be a very good deal and maybe $300 for the Europe to Cairo legs would qualify as a bargain.

So, if you could get this for under $1000, then jump at it. As Italy flights can price out higher than London, Amsterdam or France, even something like $1300 for the entire itinerary would be worth a look. If it is coming in at $2000, then I would think twice.

Whatever the case, I would think you have at least another month to watch prices before thinking about settling.

The best deal that I am getting right now is for around $1400. However, the cairo-rom flight in that itinerary goes through amsterdam and that makes that segment too long.
There are direct flights from cairo-rom but then the whole ticket becomes $1700.

Specifically, I am looking to fly from SFO-Cairo on May 14th, Cairo-rom on May 18/19 and then Rome-SFO on June 1st.

I believe the following

if you could get this for under $1000

is what's called - wishful thinking...
