Rasta, my trips through Jamaica and Colombia were all business, but not that kinda business.

Now that I think of it the lower level at MIA where you get on the busses for the regional jets reminds me of a bad bus station in a nasty town.

<<The Moscow airport in 1994.>>
THE Moscow airport? There is no "THE Moscow airport".

<<..my lord and all those years I had been taught to be afraid of this country...and they can't even keep their airport together.>>

I think your country is the one to be afraid of, judging by the state of it's 1970's style airports with it's filthy departure gates and vile fast food restaurants.

1. Tashkent. So filthy, the party I was with with went out of their way to use the lavatories in Delhi (we'd changed at Tashkent on the way out to Delhi) since they were so much cleaner.

2. Kashgar. Where you had to take your luggage up a spiral staircase from baggage reclaim to the exit.

From the description given, Taiwan - if it really does consist of wall to wall Chinese restaurants - sounds like heaven. Even if there are a few non-Chinese, the idea of an airport wholly devoid of McD, croissant joints and places selling so many stupid coffee flavours it takes hours to get a decent cup of Chinese tea still makes the place worth going to just for a good meal.

I've been pretty fortunate, I guess, with my airport choices. Have yet to go to Africa, and all of the Asian airports I have been to have been pretty nice.

MIA is probably the worst airport I have ever been to - dirty, inefficient, and just ugly. JFK scores pretty low, as well, as do EWR and LGA. Some of the terminals at BOS are kind of a dump, and only Terminal A approaches being very good. Not the biggest Dulles fan, either, but I don't think it that bad. I agree with others that ORD is better than it's reputation.

I get by okay in CDG. Certainly, it was designed before 9/11 and absolutely no effort has been made to retrofit it for the modern security era, but much of it at least gets good natural light. The food, though, is pretty poor, the walks are long, and security is kind of a hassle. There also seems to be a complete and utter lack of seating, but I've always just gone to the AF lounges, which are decent.

Best airports? SIN, HKG, and AMS. I am not the biggest fan of BKK - a lot of wasted space means overly long walks. Also, many of the gates seem to be miles from any sort of amenities.

ZRH is another one that I find kind of undeserving of the lofty reputation. It has a confusing layout and a lot of long walks to gates. I'm also not the biggest fan of the multiple security points, as it forces you to go to the overly small gate areas too early. The nail in the coffin, though, is the poor, but expensive, food choices and the lack of any sort of diversions outside of the main shopping area. Terminal E, in particular, is kind of barren. The Swiss Lounge, though, is pretty nice, and the whole thing is clean and relatively efficient.

Having just gotten back from a flight from Dakar Senegal, I would vote that "fine" airport along along with Delhi India. There is no ATM and the airport has much to be desired. They had to put barriers up to keep the beggars and others from bothering you as you leave. Pretty sad!

Ironically, my son had to be escorted to the plane as he had a Totes travel umbrella(think small,6 inches and no point)that they considered a banned item?

Hi Patty.....once again thank you!! I've copied and pasted these directions so they will be in hand as I arrive!! You are soo nice to travel with!!

Oh dear Odin...you mistake my humor. I quickly learned on my wonderful and fascinating trip to Russia that I was indeed lucky to be there. Having grown up in the 50's we had indeed been brainwashed...and there was absolutely nothing to fear. And I have learned over the years....we are very far from perfect!

I actually don't mind our airports however many of our public bathrooms could use drastic improvments. I'm all for having matrons again like they did in the "old" days and I would not mind paying .25 to have clean flushed johns and toilet paper etc.

Now Im sure Ive upset someone else somehow....so pardon me all.....just my opinion.

And thank you Patty once again!
