Oh, I'm afraid that my window shade will indeed remain OPEN during the flight!

Should there be an emergency, passengers need to be able to instantly look out and know whether it's safe to exit from that side of the aircraft. There could be a fire, etc.

In fact, the FAA requires that window shades be open during certain portions of the flight.

Haven't been this amused by a Fodors thread before - took me a full half hour to read.

My 2 cents: keep 'em open, I do.

By the way, I was once refused to be let pass by the aisle person when I needed to go pee. Had to ask loudly enough for the neighbors to hear, just so he'd "get" it. He claimed I was going too often. Either the guy's not married or he's just mean & nasty.

Keerist, you "close 'em" people just can't let this thing alone, or maybe it's just the one bored, "selfish" guy who loves to poke life back into an old fire. THe last post had been the end of June, so someone had to go digging to start the brawl again.

If you're sitting next to me, you're just out of luck. It stays open. I can explain why if you want to have that conversation, but talking about it isn't going to change my mind or my behavior. If you offer me a few FF mile award certificates, however, I might reconsider -- assuming the light from the window really is throwing glare on the movie screen.
