sorry i cannot help you here. i got mine from the airlines. for a while i was flying every week. and they gave me those for my birthday.
i would suggest you to book your flight as early as you can. this is how you get cheap deals in the states, unlike many other country where last minute is the best deal.
good luck.

Try www.entertainment.com..I bought a 2004 entertainment book that has 15 percent off UA flights..must be greater than $200..and booked in h,q,v class (if originating in CHI or DEN, only 5 percent discount...)

Will this work? or do you know anyone that has an entertainment book?

As hoiyini says, those certificates only work with certain fare classes (and may have other restrictions), and those fares may not be the lowest available. They are usually not the easiest way to do it, or else everybody will be using them.

If you must have the lowest fare, maybe others on this board can have some ideas. But be as specific as possible. What exact dates are you flying? Which airport in California? Are you restricting yourself to UA or AA only?

Also, is that Bloomington, IL or IN?

Just give you some examples. I just randomly choose a date, 4/15, on UA for April from Bloomington, IL to LAX.

Lowest fare is $223 r/t, and it's a class "T" fare.
"H" class is around $410, "V" class is about $510, and "Q" class is $650. A 15% off those fares won't do you any good right now.

I believe that "T" fare is 14-day advance, so you can take advantage of those. The coupon book will be beneficial if you don't have 14-day advance, and must pay a higher fare, like the 7-day "V" class.

I'm not talking about specifics, just some general things about the fare classes.

thank u for the info, i wasnt aware of so many things.
this is our first trip (domestic)
our travel plans has been postponed by a month (long weekend)
but we will be flying inthe middle of the week prob may 26/27 from Bloomington,IL to San Jose, CA.
there is no restriction to the flight i take. it is just that when i browsed for flights UA & AA were the flights lowest from my place.
we r planning on spending a week to 10 days so that we can cover many places (Las Vegas, disney...)
any suggestions????

OK, now an obvious question: If you want to venture into southern CA and Las Vegas, WHY are you even thinking, with only 10 days to travel, of flying into San José?! Your best bet is to fly into Los Angeles-area airports. Please consult a map; San José is 5 to 6 hours minimum from Los Angeles, and Vegas is 4 to 5 hours away from LA. The slog from Vegas back to SJ is 8 to 9 hours. NOT fun, IMHO.

In that case, I'd give up on trying to hit any part of southern CA (or Vegas) and concentrate on touring northern CA. That could give you a day or two to tour the area around San José, several days in The City-- San Francisco--, a skip up to see the redwoods and even a Wine Country visit. You can check out southern CA another time.

shruti - I'm getting fares from BMI-SJC for about $250 on UA or AA. That's pretty good already, and I doubt you'll find fares that are significantly cheaper, from those specific cities. Since it's Memorial Day weekend, I suggest that go ahead and book those fares. I doubt you'll ever find such flights for <$200.

[BTW, the fare code on AA is "N", and on UA is "T"; so those coupons won't do you any good.]

In and around San Francisco? There are so much to see you will never run out of them!

In town - Fisherman's Wharf, Cable car, Golden Gate Bridge, China Town, Alcatrez, etc...

North - Muir Woods, Napa Valley

South - Monterrey, Carmel

And if you have even more time, Yosemite and/or Reno/Lake Tahoe.

And on and on...
