United Airlines 2014 Mileage Plus requirements
www.mileageplusupdates.com/faqs.html
They now plan to track how much money you are paying for your airline tickets. Taxes are not included. If you fly in November and return in June of the following year, how does that work? It will certainly be harder to make 1K unless one purchases some Business Class tickets.

Yikes - lost my status this year. I'm just not flying the way I was before and now this. Yep - I better get those award miles used since that will be getting even worse I think too!
Thanks Wally for posting the info

Yes, flying with miles is why I'm not spending a lot on United tickets these days. Our trip to Japan in November is First Class on miles, our trip to Paris in May is Biz Class on miles. While we are buying tickets for our Hawaii trip and we'll buy tickets for some domestic trips, we aren't spending as much with United these days because we are flying on miles.

It was my understanding that the PQDs count when you take the flight. If you buy now, but fly in 2014, the PQD amount should be part of your 2014 tally. This was a huge discussion on flyertalk. Although I've not looked at the site/thread for a while, I thought I had the situation clear in my head. Maybe not?
I'm going to buy an expensive BKK ticket to help boost my total and keep my 1K status.

rkkwan, I'm going to buy an expensive BKK ticket that will be used in January. Hoping the $$$$$ I spend will count in January and NOT the date that I purchase the ticket. Between getting more than 100% EQMs and then PQDs for that expensive ticket, I should be on my way towards 1K again in 2014.
I'm still waiting for clarification of the point of discussion here.

It's going to get complicated. Currently, I don't think UA's receipt split outbound and inbound fares like what one can find using itasoftware.com. And even itasoftware doesn't split individual legs on the same direction, so a connection involving Dec31 and Jan1 will still be a problem.
What's DL policy on this?

Yep, you are probably right. I'm not attempting to do that though. I'll be doing a R.T. from BKK to ORD and back to BKK (for my annual April trip). Need to buy the r.t. because it's much cheaper than buying a one-way biz for the Jan return from our holiday trip to Thailand. We have our outgoing flts, using miles, on the THAI A380 is 1st class again (from FRA) and getting to FRA on UA in 1st class also.
I think that early Jan/mid-April R.T. in biz will be a great start towards my PQDs...... hoping so anyway.
