I'm grateful for this thread. I've never used wheelchair assistance before, but I may need it for a family member soon.

I had no idea this was A Thing, any more than I would think of tipping a gate attendant.

Many years ago I was in a boarding area in Narita and noticed a woman slipping some money to the man who had brought her to the area in a wheelchair. I don't think I had ever thought about it before that....or noticed. A few years ago, a friend came to live with us and had to have assistance for all his flights.
