Thanksgiving to florida
Believe it or not, tickets to florida over Thanksgiving are an impossible market. I have already purchased tickets for my son in New York because NY-Florida is the worst. I am now searching to get tickets from Denver-South Florida and I am having no luck at all. The tickets are outrageous.Should I take a chance and wait and see if they come down, or bite the bullet. eventhough I am not sure I can spend that much. I have looked at hundreds of sites on a daily basis and haven't found anything under $400-500. I am waiting for Southwest to open up, but they are only booking until August. any suggestions? Any off the beated path sites you have had good luck with. I am very discouraged and need some help! Thanks!

I just ran it on kayak - DEN-MIA, but also included FLL and PBI. Picked dates of Tues 11/20-Sun 11/25. Got multiple fares for $360. Could save a little money by adding a few days to either end of trip.
That does not seem like an unreasonable fare to me - but you say you are not sure you can spend that much - obviously I am not advocating spending money you can not afford.
I have found when book Thanksgiving travel for our son, waiting does not lower fares (he flies Savannah-Boiston)

$400 or so is a good fare for Thanksgiving, in my opinion.
Southwest's full fare DEN-FLL is $332 + tax each way. Even their "Fun fare" is $200 + tax each way. With demand that high during the holiday, I don't see they offering many dirt cheap tickets.
If you want to try, make sure you download their "Ding" program, and then book the second you get notified they're opening up tickets for sale through Thanksgiving. Blink, and the cheaper fares on them will be gone too.

DEN-FLL leaving Denver at 5 PM on Wednesday for $328 on Kayak - really, try the site.
I agree that $400 is reasonable fare for that time.
Follow Ding steps, but don't count on SWA to come thru for you - look at the fares another poster quoted. Don't know what kind of fare you were expecting, but this sounds like what it costs to fly from Denver to Florida - whether or not it is Thanksgiving or not.

missypie - don't know if you also mean Thanksgivign Wed-Sun, but kayak also has several itineraries over that time period DAL-MCO for $414.
Flights are costing a lot more than one expects these days - fuel, slow fare increases, etc. If you have not checked a familiar route recently, you will face sticker shock.
It is my opinion that for holiday periods, fares will not come down - but that is just my opinion and based on nothing other than past experience.
When I am looking for the least expensive fare, I go to kayak, itasoftware then to on-line travel agents (Travelocity, expedia, orbitz) and then to individual airline sites - especially those not listed on these sites.
If I must be someplace - like a holiday family trip, catch a cruise - I never wait for southwest or similar airline to post those dates - unless I am willing then to pay a possibly higher fare on another airline if my dates are not available.
We have used FF miles for our son for holiday trips, een though one pays a premium for dates such as these, if fare is too high.
I think if there were some secret way to get a really cheap fare, someone here would have posted about it already.
