Sunwing Airlines

Does anyone have any feedback to share regarding Sunwing Airlines, part of Sunwing Vacations based in Toronto? I am interested in knowing about their service, on-time record and even their financial reliability if available. Thank you.

Never heard of them, but it seems like they just take delivery of its 14th 737-800, so it seems like their financials are okay.

Very few English-language comments/reviews I can find, and they don't seem too positive. There may be more French-language ones.

I am still trying to think what other airline put 189 seats on a 737-800, which is the maximum allowed with its number of emergency exits. Just don't expect any legroom.

Based on my calculations, to put 189 seats on a 737-800, the maximum pitch is about 29". Which is 2" less than the least pitch of 31" on major airlines. Jetblue's A320 has 34".

I've flown with them a couple of times. Yes, it is a bit cramped, but I didn't find it any more so than other charters. You can pay extra for premium seats closer to the front of the plane, but at 5'6" I was fine in the regular seats. I was also pleasantly surprised by the service - hot meal, warm towelette, free champagne - and booked the second time because of that.

Keep in mind, as with any charter, flight times may change (especially if you book way ahead) and in winter there may be more delays.

But, all of the extras combined with the lower price made it a worthwhile choice for me and I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them again and am hoping to book something for April.

They suck! Will never travel with Sunwing again! I should have known better with all the negative reviews but I foolishly chose to save a couple dollars. We wont make the same mistake again. I hope that no one will book something important like a wedding with Sunwing, guaranteed you will lose a day of your trip! Or you will arrive home at 2:55am! It seems they will post great flight times to get you to book then intentionally change the flight times to a time when no other planes are in the sky!! must save them a bundle! Please do not be fooled, dont travel with Sunwing, pay the difference you will regret it if you dont!

We just returned from Mazatlan. On our return from the RIU hotel to the airport, 2 lines where formed, one for passengers to Kelowna/Edmonton, another to Vancouver. It was very chaotic. 2 old ladies lined up in the wrong line and were scolded by the sunwing representative TWICE. I asked him to be nice to the ladies, they are old and didn't do it on purpose. Now he went on attacking me and threatened me (won't take me on the bus and beat me up at the airport - seriously). I was scared for my life and shut up. Not a pleasant experience, No more sunwing for us
