Spirit Airlines - Now What?

I booked a flight from Spirit Airlines on February 24th - Detroit to Providence, RI - great sale - total r/t for 2 = $221.00. On March 7th I got an email from Spirit saying sorry we're cancellinig that route. They did refund my money, but left me without a good deal on tickets.

I had been seeing tickets from Kalamazoo, MI or Detroit in the $217 range. This past weekend they jumped to $303. This is the first time I'm buying airline tickets. Should I wait to find better deals? I've been checking all the travel sites & airline websites daily. This time of year do you anticipate sales or increases?

My cheapest alternative is to fly from O'Hare, but I'm not a city girl so would rather not if possible.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Oh, and do you have any flexibility on the dates that you fly, or do they have to be those specific dates?

I just checked prices on expedia. Departing May 31st from Detroit to Providence and back on June 6th you have flights with one stop on USAirways - $244.00
United - $260.00
NWA - $277.00
I usually check with expedia to get an idea about price range, then check individual airlines websites. Never paid more than what Expedia affers. Often I find much cheaper prices when buying directly from airlines on their website. Good luck

I wondered why they cancelled it when I bought the tickets during an online sale just two weeks prior! Am still looking for tickets to go down. I'm hoping after the high school Spring Breaks are over to see some better deals.

Although it's definitely not the most convenient routing, Independence Air is offering a fare right now as low as $144.40 per person, all taxes and fees included. The flight goes through Washington, D.C.

Their website is www.independenceair.com if you want to check out flight schedules.

If you have not yet signed up for Spirit's emails, definitely do. They'll email you weekly with the current flight specials, which are usually good for several weeks if you book quickly.

You can also go to sites like travelocity and expedia and have them email you when the flight prices from DTW to Providence change in price. Sometimes they'll email you a great low price, which you'll then find actually has no tickets available, but other times it works great. Definitely no harm in signing up, other than 1-2 extra emails per week.
