Southwest when will they open up December bookings?

Any idea when SW opens up new dates? Scheduled has ended on October 30 for the longest time now. I check every day. I need December 6 to 13

They have no set schedule to open their schedule.....Dont let anyone tell you they know for sure, cuz they dont.....One of those little quirks with Southwest.....Sign up for their "Ding" thingee...And, keep checking daily.

I am impatiently waiting for Dec 13-20. AnnMarie and BeachBoi are both correct~SW does have a pattern of opening their schedule 6 months out, but sometimes it's 5 months or less.........They will usually post something on their website when they plan on opening the schdule, but again, no guarantees!

Here's an explanation as to why SW has not opened their schedule beyond October 30th.

thanks for the info! Makes good business sense to me to wait and see where there's a need and then fulfill it!

I agree, this is smart and one of the reasons Southwest is able to be consistently profitable: they can adjust based on conditions. It could well be that Southwest will add capacity with the other airlines cutting flights and adding fees...

looks to me like they are going to wait and see where there's a need and add to their schedule. Whoever their marketing manager is, he/she is pretty sharp!

I agree--and whoever locked in fuel prices is all that and a bag of chips, too.

Just got a "Ding" from Southwest. They have opened up their schedule through January 9, 2009.

Yup, they did. And it is a big dissapointment to me. I want to go from LAX to Las Vegas the few days after Christmas. The fares are wayyyyyyyyy higher than I would have thought of Southwest. Looking at other their fares other than the "wanna get away" is mind boggling. BTW, they are nearly as high as the other major carriers on the "wanna get away" and higher on their other fares. I can't imagine paying these prices to Las Vegas. Is this Southwest's answer to not charging for baggage ??????

I will likely be giving up on my idea. DANG!

Southwest has always charged more at holidays just like everyone else. And surely they too have had to raise their fares. Their hedging of jet fuel purchases only delays the ultimate rise in their operating costs.

I do not believe that is true - i agree they looked at what everyone else is charging and they are charging the same. Last year i paid $79. each way to Florida - this year it is $250. down and $200. back - not good so i am not sure what we will do! I did not book at this price and am hoping other people won't either and maybe they will lower the prices. I called Southwest and they said it is a possibility!
