Okay, is Southwest safe now", and How about Jet Blue?

With all the flying we and our family are doing in the next few months, I am getting nervous about the 'maintenance' issues. Especially when it's one of my loved ones. Anyone have the latest on these two, and others. Which have the best/worst maintenance records.

In my opinion, all major US airlines are safe.

I agree with rkkwan. I wouldn't worry much about any of the major airlines in the US (or Europe, for that matter).

To the best of my knowledge neither of these carriers have ever had a fatal accident.

P_M: As I mentioned in another thread, in the MDW accident on 12/8/05, a 6-year old boy was killed when the car he was riding in was hit by a Southwest flight that over ran the runway.

I remember that accident but I didn't realize anyone had been killed. Ironically the person killed was not even on the plane. Very sad though.

All the 'maintenance issues' over the last few weeks has gotten a lot of attention, but the truth is that flying on an airplane is far safer than driving in a vehicle on the road.

I've never asked to see the brake maintenance records of a rental car shuttle bus, taxi, rental car, etc. and yet I continue to ride in those vehicles.

Even closer to home, how about the tires and brakes, steering, etc. on your own car? Do you perform all the suggested maintenance on them?
