NY man sues jetBlue over flight spent in toilet

A New York man who says he was denied a seat on a five-hour jetBlue flight and was instead told to "hang out" in the plane's bathroom has sued the airline for $2 million, saying he suffered "extreme humiliation."....

Oh my, that does sound strange. I wonder if he shows up on the flight manifest, if he "took someone else's seat"??

It would seem so. How would they prove that, unless someone fessed up to being the FA/Captain involved? Witnesses amongst the rest of the passengers?

It does sound so outrageous that you wonder if only half the story has been told, or if its even accurate. Yet, stranger things have happened.

Having said all that, and extending some sympathy to the passenger stuck in the loo as the plane flew across the country.....
how many people would actually say, "sure, I will hang out in the john while this FA takes my seat?" You would have to wrestle me to the cabin floor before I moved into the john for my room with a view. And, the passenger didn't raise a ruckus, such that no one else chimed in, "are you kidding me?" "Neither he nor anyone else on this plane is sitting in the john for the next three hours!"

Exactly! If the FA gave up her seat for this man, that's one thing, but to have the captain come back and say she's not comfortable and she wants her seat back. I would be willing to bet, she was flying for free or very close to free (non-revenue), so she would have had to suck it up. I don't know why he didn't speak up!

While I am SO against sueing - if this is true, JetBlue is getting off easy for $2M. It's such a strange story, it just doesn't sound made up... it could be, but there's enough plausability that you could see it happening. If it is true, I would love to see the Captain explaining why he asked a paying passenger to sit in the bathroom because a flight attendant wasn't comfortable.... if it's true - he deserves the money.....

Presumably, there will be plenty of witnesses to say whether this is an accurate account or not.

He was flying on a Buddy Pass(Non Rev) and I believe I read that the pilot told him he was "lucky to be on board". My flight attendant friends point out there must be much more to this story: the flight attendant who gave up her seat was not on duty, otherwise a short stint in the j/s would not have bothered her or any other flight attendant. Was he the one and only non revenue passenger on board, so she insisted he be the one to give up his seat so she would be comfortable?? Why did the f/a go to the pilot, and not the senior f/a?? They went on and on....

It's still strange though. Granted I don't work for an airline anymore, but I don't remember a revenue passenger would give up their seat for a non-revenue. If that's what happened, didn't the off duty FA realize that the non-rev pax couldn't sit in the jump seat.

very strange indeed.

I can't find it quickly, and probably won't look for it, but Ryanair had a similar incident a few years ago, except that the non-rev passenger did not complain about the bathroom seating, but some staff member reported it, if I'm recalling correctly. The pilot and crew responsible were disciplined.
