Nothing Easy with EasyJet....

DO NOT FLY WITH THEM!!!

I have to share my unbelievable struggle with this “airline”. I recently purchased two tickets for my wife and I for an upcoming trip between Venice and London this summer. After ordering the tickets (and then finding their unadvertised 7 Euro fee for using a credit card), I noticed that my wife’s name was left off the confirmation page (It showed my name twice). I am very detailed and ALWAYS verify my information before purchasing anything online. After seeing the error, I notified EasyJet’s customer service immediately (within seconds) of the purchase. What has followed has been an ongoing two week e-mail confrontation with at least five “customer service” representatives from EasyJet who have not even lifted a finger to recognize nor resolve the issue.

One reply (a week and a half later) stated that it was my problem and that my computer must have been using an “auto fill” option. Nonsense…I have never used auto fill to complete an order. Then they state that EasyJet’s Terms and Conditions reflect that to make a “name change” a cost of 30 Euros PLUS the difference in seat price from the time I made the original purchase must be paid to correct the error. They also state that I must call London (long distance of course) to “speak” with their “customer service” desk if I am unhappy with their answer. Are you kidding me?

I also asked politely to be put in touch with management…but no response. I could go on and on but PLEASE do yourself a favor and think long and hard if you are considering flying with EasyJet. It’s so true that you get what you pay for but this fraudulent activity goes well and beyond. This has been one of the most stressful head shaking events that I have ever experienced and I hope NO ONE has to go through this as I unfortunately have. If you are looking for low cost European airfare, I can attest to Ryan Air’s quality and customer service as I have traveled with them in the past.

You had me up to that point

You talk about Easyjet's CC charge, yet Ryanair charge €4 per person per flight (unadvertised unless you look in the charges) rather than €7 for all the booking, Ryanair charge €100 (yes ONE HUNDRED EURO) per person to change a name

The charge for a name change looks as if they thought someone else who wasn't the original person was travelling with you - Ryanair would have done the same. In most cases it's cheaper booking a new ticket

So I think you are a troll or someone who is incredibly naive

No...I am not a troll. I have no affiliation whatsoever. I only mentioned Ryan due my absolute disgust with EasyJet's handling of my situation. So...I am not endorsing Ryan but just trying to help others from having the kind of frustrating experience that I've had with EasyJet.

My apologies for not knowing of Ryans' cc charge. I flew with them many years back and did not remember that type of charge.

My main complaint was the name problem and EasyJet's lack of help/understanding.

Few years ago I flew easyJet 3 times. Never had a problem with booking on line. One of the flights was seriously delayed. Other than that I found the service to be adequate, the FAs friendly, the planes clean.

For last few years BA is pretty much matching the easyJet fares if you buy it way in advance. With BA I get lounge access, occasional free op-upgrade, business class check in, etc. so I don't even look at easyJet, but if I ever have to, I would not hesitate.

I would endorse Easyjet any day over Ryanair - no contest.

The first thing to do in that situation is notify your credit card company immediately and let them know what happened. Say you have contacted the airline but they do not have a phone number so you are worried about getting a timely response. You actually probably have 60 days to dispute a charge, but notifying the cc company ASAP gets you on record as noticing the issue immediately.

In a case like that, a good cc company would stand behind you and simply deny payment to easyJet.

Use your credit card company for such things. They are much bigger than easyJet most likely, and if you do not have a record of disputing charges every week, they will stand behind you, not easyJet.

Andrew...

Thank you for your response. Yes, I contacted my CC bank and have the incident on record. (This is the first time I have ever disputed a charge.) They are now working on my behalf to resolve the issue.

I just feel like I've been backed into a corner for no reason whatsoever...no fault on my end at all and now I must obey their "terms and conditions" or run the risk of my wife not being honored as the 2nd ticket holder.

Honestly, I understand EasyJet is a low cost no frills airline and accept their bill for everything policy. EXCEPT in this case, where I did everything that I could do properly on my end and they have me in a no win situation.

Thanks again for the post.

Update on the EasyJet saga...

Finally after two plus weeks, I received an e-mail from customer service stating that they will in fact issue me a credit for the 32,25 Euros "name change" charge.

My hope for all of mankind has now been reaffirmed! Geesh...
