Screwed over by STA Travel - help w/ Easyjet question

I booked a reservation with STA Travel this morning, for my law school to purchase. Before we bought the ticket, I called to change the outgoing flight to an earlier time, so I would ensure plenty of time to catch my connecting flight to Amsterdam the next day (which leaves from Gatwick instead of Heathrow). They said the change was made, so we went ahead an bought the ticket. When my e-ticket was sent me me thereafter, it did not reflect the change we made. I called back and asked for the same agent; he apologized and went through and promised he'd get me on the earlier flight. Moments later I got an e-ticket reflecting the change, so I went ahead and bought my connecting ticket to Amsterdam on Easyjet. A few hours later, the agent calls back and says I can't be on the earlier flight. So I am stuck now with an arrival time in London Heathrow of 11:35am, and an outgoing flight on Easyjet from Gatwick at 1:15pm. I can change the Easyjet flight to a later one (the cost of which change STA refuses to pay), but the only one I am sure I can make is the last flight of the day, around 7pm. I am concerned that I would be risking getting stuck in London overnight, which is absolutely a no-go because I have a flight from Amsterdam to South Africa the next morning. So, I am wondering a) can I cancel my Easyjet flight (I have found some on Brit. Air for the same price), and if not b) how reliable are they? Is is a major risk for me to plan on leaving London for Amsterdam with them at 7pm if I have a flight at 10 from Amsterdam in the morning? I am really flustered about all this.

I'd call EasyJet and ask them.

I've flown them many times, never had a problem.

How does one call Easyjet? I can't find any numbers on their site and there is no information about how to cancel. Their FAQ says you can't cancel except for the 24-hour cancellation policy but there is no more information about it.

Pointless cancelling your Easyjet flight - you won't get ANY refund, not even the tax portion as it's swallowed up by Admin fees.

With 7 hours you have plenty of time to get between the two airports

However once you've paid to get between airports & the cost of changing your Easyjet flight (admin fee plus difference in price), it might be cheaper just to book the BA one and fly from Heathrow

Thanks alan that's a good point even if it's not the ideal resolution Easyjey does have a 24-hr cancellation policy has anyone used it? They charge you money to call their center so I'd rather know if it they really do let you cancel w/in 24 hours instead of throwing more money away.

I can appreciate that given how low their fares are...it's STA that has no excuse for putting me in this position!

mp413,

OF COURSE you can cancel your EasyJet reservation within the 24 hr window! There is a cancellation fee of GBP 17.50 however.

Just call them at:
011 44 870 6 000 000

Hope this helps,
Amdre

Thanks Andre!! The fee is half the cost of the ticket but it's better than nothing Maybe if I write STA I can get them to cover it.

If you go ahead with your cancellation, would it help to buy a BMI ticket to Amsterdam from Heathrow? I'd still allow many hours of time, given how Heathrow is.

011 44 870 6 000 000

Just to point out that in the UK that is a 10ppm phone line and Easyjet NEVER answer phones quickly. I'd hate to think what it costs at international rates

You could try a trawl through www.saynoto0870.com to see if there is a normal number for Easyjet. At worst they can only cut you off

Get a telephone card that allows you to phone overseas (and limits your liability should something go horribly wrong). Below is the contact info from the EasyJet site. When I phoned a 0870 number from Canada, I found that with a telephone card it was about 33 cents CAD per minute (this was a 0870 number for the Holiday Inn). I don't know what it would have been from a landline directly, but I thought using a $10 phone card was the safest way to go.

From the EasyJet site:
Other international calls

If you are telephoning from a country not listed above, you can call us on 0044 870 6 000 000. Please note that calls made to this number will be charged at the prevailing overseas call rate. We recommend using easyJet.com as a cheaper alternative.

If what you mean KidsToLondon is that I write a letter, believe me I'm on it!

And I'm going to call on a calling card first thing in the morning so I'll let you know what happens. If it's really difficult that is something that will weigh very strongly for me against using EasyJet - if there's one place you need decent customer service it's an airline.

mp413,

Writing a letter is good and may produce eventual reuslts, but I was sort of suggesting a phone call to the company, peppered with vaguely threatening Legalese.

Is a calling card cheaper than the numbers like 101-6400 or 101-6868 that you dial before the 011 and all the rest? I use those numbers all the time and they never cost over about 5cents a minute.

The 0870 numbers (like the EasyJet one) cost a fair amount when you phone them from the UK. I know they cost more when you phone them from North America, but I don't know how much. If you got a clear, definite answer (in writing) as to the cost by using those other non-calling-card plans, then you could use those of course. I do remember that once someone in my household phoned a 0870 number without a calling card and it was rather expensive for a 1 or 2 minute call.

To be clearer, the 0870 numbers are sort of like the 900 numbers here.
