Easy Jet Sit In

There is a news story on the BBC that passengers on an Easy Jet flight staged a sit in in protest. Seems like they had already been delayed and then were asked to change to another aircraft. The passengers refused to leave the plane. I am sure more details are out there on the web.

Sounds like a great airline.
I was on the plane. easyJet made a terrible mistake. The bottom line is that the delayed passengers Nice-Paris were coming up to the 4 hour threshold where easyJet would have to pay them compensation for the delay.
Some controller in Luton decided to bump us(which apparantly they are legally entitled to do) to save the compensation claim. We were then due to fly later on another aircraft being sent out from Luton to collect us.

The general passenger response was one of anger on the plane. I believe that due to the crass commercial decision made in the beginning easyJet lost many future passengers that night both on the plane and from those that read the news stories.
I have booked 28 easyJet flights this year and they are in my opinion not as good as they were. I believe this has a lot to do with the change of management since they went public. I sincerely hope it will not get worse since the purchase of Go.
I am flying with them again twice more in the next two weeks and will comment further as appropriate. My experiences so far are average, but I balance this against the savings made against BA. If it gets worse I shall go back to BA whatever the cost difference, at least BA understand who the customer is.

skl
It's interesting to hear that a passenger on that flight is still going to continue using Easy Jet(in the short term anyway). As a frequent flier you obviously save a fortune using the company. I'm assuming your trips are business related so when does the time come when convenience becomes more important than losing money? For my part using easy jet is not an option as they do not fly from my airport but I think I would certainly use them if they did. To fly to London return with BA I pay more than I would for a medium priced package tour abroad. Prices are scandalous.
If I had been on that flight I would have been furious too. But to get so cheap flights people have to realise that they are not going to be treated the same as being a BA customer.
I'm not talking about this specific incident, as I agree that was not good for Easy Jet,but too many people use companies like EJ with too high expectations.
Easy Jet and similar companies will continue to thrive because people save a lot of money flying with them.
You seem to have quite a realistic view on things. I hope someone from easy jet reads your comments about the level of service falling.

I did enjoy reading an account of actual experience. Nothing like it.

I wonder, however, do the Easy Jet bean counters really care as long as the profits are there?

I think the philosophy is contain the damage, cut corners, and make a pound or a buck. The customer is simply a raw material, sort of like ore out of a mine. There are more where these others came from. If you don't like our prices and services, go fly BA.

Skl, thanks for the info. I didn't actually realize that easyJet had gone public. Flew them last time in January, so I'll have to see if there's a difference next time I fly.

Do have to disagree with one point: BA doesn't understand what customer service is. Can't tell you how many problems I've had with them. I won't go through my long boring story, but will relate what I witnessed while I was in line waiting to be rebooked on a connection. The couple in front of me had missed their connection in Heathrow to Germany. Was their plane late? No. Didn't they have boarding passes? Yes, they did. They didn't get on their flight because BA gave away their seats because it was ANTICIPATED that their flight into Heathrow would be delayed. It was not, and they arrived in plenty of time for their connection. Then the agent told them that this wasn't BA's fault, and while he shouldn't give them a hotel voucher, he would out of the goodness of his heart.

I've also got to slate BA, I'm afraid.... I have had problems with Easyjet and Go, but, as others have said, the price compensates. With BA, I've paid a LOT of money, and had a catalogue of disasters - been bumped like those other passengers, because my flight from Edinburgh was ANTICIPATED to be late, they lost my baggage, double-booked me, ... you get the picture. I think Easyjet has gone downhill, but still not as bad as BA, in my experience, and still half the price! lol
