Korean Air to Australia
My brother was nice enough to transfer his frequent flyer miles to me so I can go back to Melbourne. Only trouble is that I have to fly Korean Air (Atlanta to Seoul to Sydney). Has anyone ever flown them from Atlanta to Seoul or Seoul to Sydney before? What did you think of the service & flight? What about the meals? I'm flying Business Class so I think comfort will not be an issue (I hope). Do they have those little TVs at every seat?

Thanks for your comments. Don't really have a choice though. My brother's FF miles are with Delta and they have an agreement with Korean Air about flying into Australia.
So now John has me scared to death and I can't do a thing about it. Guess I will be doing a lot of sleeping so I won't know what's going on.
Yes, Vicky, my brother is a jewel.

Sandi, don't be scared first of all because the United States Department of Defense reinstated KE as a DOD approved business carrier. Basically, safety is not an issue. (And since when anything is a sure thing these days?) Our domestic carriers have accidents on a more recurring basis than the airlines in Europe. Next, KE Prestige (Business) cabin has been voted "Best Wine Cellar In the sky" award from Business Traveller Magazine. Plus, Korean Air was awarded the 'Mercury Award' issued by the Internaitonal Flight Catering Association. Which means, best In-flight Meal service overall. Take advantage of KE Morning Calm lounges with complimentary cocktails, lounge check-in, etc. You will be just fine. I wouldn't be anything BUT overjoyed if someone gave me a Business Class ticket on ANY international flight. Be happy about that! For more information, visit www.koreanair.com. Pleasant journey!!!

Sandi
I have never heard of the US Department of Defense sanctioning a foreign carrier as a "business carrier".Then again, I am NOT an expert on anything. Its just MHO and observation. But can you look a gift horse in the mouth as they say??

Remember that life is about living and that everything happens for a reason. We should never live our lives thinking, what if...? what if...? Example, ANA All Nippon Airways has an outstanding safety record... but, two of their pilots were placed on probation for drinking while on duty. Same thing with SIA Singapore Airlines, America West, USAirways, etc... you see what I mean. I would prefer a safer aircraft than sober pilots for the obvious reason I wouldn't want to swirl into a fiery hell. My point is we will never know what is really going on until we experience it for ourselves.

Anyway, Sandi, I hope you enjoy your experience aboard Korean Air. Enjoy some Cliquot or Dom Perignon and have a party in the sky! Take pictures. Meet new friends. Stop and remember you are walking on an earth. Travel is for those who want to forget the daily hustle and bustle of the city life. The flight across the ocean will be that of a morning calm.

Michael
Can you substantiate your info on the ANA pilots being put "on probation" for drinking while "on duty"?I take it, you say its OK for pilots to do that.In the same breath you are saying that ANA and the other airlines you quoted--Singapore,USAir,AmericaWest,etc., have LESS than zero-tolerance policies toward alcohol consumption by pilots.I'm just asking a question, not anything more.
Jason

I have just had a look at the site regarding air safety and note that it takes records back to 1970. If that is the case then it can hardly be Korean Air's fault for that dreadful crash when the Soviets blew the plane out of the sky.... can it? and that would be included in their statistics

Just returned from Bangkok, via Seoul, Korea, on Friday by Korean Air. I found the plane very clean, large and comfortable even in economy class. The food was very good. They are working hard to change their image and it is working. You will not be dissapointed.
