Miami airport concourses evacuated:

"An undetermined number of people improperly entered a concourse at Miami International Airport on Thursday, prompting the evacuation of five of the airport’s eight concourses and delaying some flights.

Concourses A through E were being evacuated at midday after the TSA employee was found sleeping at concourse B. According to officials, passengers were seen passing through the checkpoint, past the sleeping agent."

At least with the old system, they could fire the person. Now that they are Fed employees, they'll probably make him/her a supervisor... Who's bright idea was this?

Agreed. My hair stylist accidentally brought his set if 10 hair shearers in his luggage. He was not stopped until he was on his way home. I could not believe he got through security with these 5 to 8 inch razor sharp scissors without anyone stopping him. He finally got caught just as he was about the board the plane home by the random baggage screeners. That's our top notch security for you.

Government workers!! Oh yeah, security will get much better. FYI: it takes an act of God or Congress to fire these folks. The US gov't employs more useless, incompetent workers than the civilian force. Why work hard, if there is no way you will get fired? evidently you don't even have to be awake at your place of duty. I am a contractor who works with these folks and I am constantly amazed that anything gets done. Since I can be canned like a tuna for being unproductive it sure keeps memotivated to do my job, and of course my US tax exemption for living in a foreign country. Airline security really is in trouble now!!!

To the previous poster, you do not know what you are talking about. The new screeners go through extensive training of over 40 hours. They are tested and re-tested. So think about what you are talking about, and no I am not a screener or a federal employee.

They should have had reservists take it over. They are paid regardless and one would think the training would be shorter ans cheaper.

From now on I will be screened by a federal employee who is not afraid to get fired, EVER. And the only difference is that instead of a green card he or she has a passport so he doesn't really care if he has a problem at work or not - he is a citizen already. And he's fresh out of a training room versus years of experience of prior screeners. This makes me feel really safe, DUH!

Message: I heard on the news that a lot of the US Airport Security Guards have lost their jobs and the job has been given to trained Public Servants. Well I have to say YIPPEE!! because I have never in my life met a worse bunch of people in the Boston/ New York/ Philly area in my life of travelling. They would have been the rudest bunch of people on earth and I, as an overseas traveller to the USA, did not expect rudeness, particularly when the tourist $ is welcomed in so many other areas and when the airport is the first place you see of a country rudeness does not leave a nice impression.
Hopefully the next lot of security people will be able to do their job without upsetting too many people.
Confirmation of my treatment came only last month when a friend of mine was in tears in Hawaii because of the way she was treated. It is one thing to do a job in a gung ho way and quite another to do it without hurting people's feelings. There is no need to be insulting and rude to get your safety message across.

Anything is better then the asshole that treated my sons girlfriend last February. We were on our way back from Miami and had to go thru security in St. Louis and the the security idiot held up the plane just so he could give an 18 year old a ration of shit and then take her tweezers. She was know way a threat and had all her doc's in order. She came on the plane in tears.
