KLM - additonal fees

Earlier this month, we flew with KLM from Paris to Vancouver. When we used the on-line check in service for flight, we noticed that we have been charged an additional $123.64 per ticket. We had not made any changes to the reservation, we were within the baggage limits and we did not upgrade to Economy Comfort. Has anyone else had this happen? We inquired about the fees when checking in at the airport but no one seemed to know what the fees were for. I am now attempting to find out the reason for the charge, but am being bounced around from KLM, Air France and Delta's customer service departments. In the meantime, I was curious to know if other Fordorites have had this experience.

Leuk, have you emailed the airline regarding this additional fee versus trying to receive the information via phone? I ask as Christopher Elliot who assist travelers with unusual problems almost always states that one should email versus phoning. So if you haven't you might try that. Best wishes to you.

I have flown KLM about 8-10 times, maybe more. This has never happened to me. I do agree that with KLM you must be very persistent. Are you a Flying Blue member? There are dedicated phone #s and email addresses for contacting people.

Good luck and keep trying!

As I said in your Europe post the only thing I can think of is that the didn't charge you fees and taxes initially. Where did you buy the ticket? In the Europe or Canada?

Thanks for the replies. I initially emailed KLM, who told me to contact Air France. So, I tried contacting Air France via their website. I completed their on-line complaint form but my attempts were futile. The form was rejected despite completing all fields accurately. I finally phoned Air France who told me to call Delta. I have emailed Delta and am looking forward to their response. I purchased the ticket on-line through the KLM website. According to my receipt, taxes and fees were paid at the time of purchase.

Call your credit card and dispute that charge first. Deal with AF/KL later.

We bought KLM through Delta website, San Francisco to Copenhagen. No additional charges.

I can only think, if you booked on KLM website - can it be currency issue? You agreed to pay a certain amount in Euro, did the Canadian dollar go down since then?

I am now looking for a flight SFO-VCE, and one website has this ad:

"Price for this flight is included in the package price
Airport Taxes, Fees and September 11th Security Fee are 129.53 per person"

So maybe your fee is the additional security fee?

I wonder if you made a direct reservation with the airline, or a 3rd party like Orbitz or a travel agent, and they did not include security fee?

Just a thought
