Is This A Good Price?

Hi,
I'm from Toronto and plan on making a trip to SFO. I checked from Toronto - YYZ but it was too expensive. Coincidentally I have relatives in London ( A city about 1 and half - 2 hours away from Detroit) and decided to to stay over night there and catch a flight from Detroit. I found the detroit (DTW) flight from American Airlines to cost $1146 canadian (876 usd)cheaper then the about $2000 canadian from YYZ on United Airlines. Can you tell me if i should book this flightt or wait or if anyone can find me an even cheaper flight. I want to leave on Dec 25th of this year and get back on Jan 8th give or take 2 days.

First, let me get this straight. You're getting UA from YYZ-SFO for C$500 per ticket, or about US380. And AA from DTW-SFO for C$213 or US$163 per ticket, right?

Now, I'll tell you that $163 for DTW-SFO seems too cheap to me. I don't think that's right, as I'm seeing $217 on aa.com and on other travel sites. Or you can fly NW, DL or AA from BUF, for about the same price. And I do not think you'll get fares much lower htan $217, tax included. Perhaps $199, but definitely not lower.

Whether you can find YYZ-SFO fares lower than ~C$500, I can't tell you. There are some low-cost startup airlines in Canada which may have lower fare than AC/UA, but I am not sure if any flies between Toronto (or Hamilton) and San Francicso.

After you choose the flights, you'll find that the price including tax is now C$284.52, or the same US$217 I was talking about.

So, that's the going rate for DTW/BUF to San Francisco, and as I said, it's a decent price, and won't go down by more than $15-20 from now till then.
