Heathrow hotel for 12-hr. layover
Our BA flight is to arrive Heathrow at 10am. Our connecting flight is to leave at 10pm.
I'm looking for an airport hotel to spend the day. Is there such a thing? Any info about rates?
Thanks.

I don't know if they have a day-rate, but the cheapest option I know of at Heathrow is the Ibis hotel, basically a Motel 6 quality hotel operated by the French company Accor. There isn't much to do there; however, they have a restaurant, pub, and some video games. I had to pay about $100 a night to stay there after a snowstorm closed JFK (one would hope a day room is cheaper); there is a McDonald's within walking distance. Beware that you must actually PAY to take the airport shuttle there; it's about 5 pounds, I believe.

I will be overnighting between flights at the Renaissance Heathrow which is $118 for a one day stay. I would think a day rate would be cheaper - maybe check their website. The Heathrow Hoppa goes every 15 minutes between the hotel and airport and is 5 pounds return.

Thanks, Doug and Louise.
From reading about it elsewhere, I understand that the one hotel WHITHIN Heathrow --- is the Hilton. I e-mailed them asking about dayrooms rate, but have not yet got any response. I will post any information I'll get...

I recently needed a hotel at Heathrow for a very early morning departure and we used Priceline. The board at biddingfortravel.com helps you work out what properties may come up (no guarantee but with an airport hotel they're all much the same)and how much you should bid.
Hope that helps.

Why spend the day in London sitting in a hotel? If you take the Metro you can go straight to Picadilly Circus and/or transfer along the way to anywhere.
There's also an express train from Heathrow to Kings Cross railway/subway station. It's a little faster but more expensive than the Metro.
Don't miss a chance to go to the British Museum, or the National Gallery. Both are easy to get to via the Metro, and they are both FREE.
You'd even have time to see the Tower if you wanted to, but not if you went to both of the above.
Add an early dinner at a wonderful Indian restaurant, and wow, what a fabulous layover!

The Heathrow Express goes to Paddington Station, not King's Cross. It's a 15 minute journey and the cost is 25BP RT if purchased on line or 26BP if purchased at the station.
Priceline is a great suggestion for an overnight stay but remember that many London hotels are strict about the regular (3pm or so) check-in so that may not be the best option for a day stay as there would not be any guarantees for early check-in.
There are many hotels/motels and B&Bs near Heathrow but hardly any have a free shuttle. You could take the Hoppa bus but it may take some time to get to your hotel, depending on the location and the fact that the bus runs only about every 1/2 hour. It's 3BPs per journey per person.
Some of the hotels are on a free bus route. Here is more info: http://www.londontoolkit.com/lhr/hotel_hoppa_bus.htm
You could always take a taxi but expect to pay around 10BPs per journey to the airport hotels.

...As I promised, here is the info from Hilton.
They would not give me rates (I didn't check about a certain date) but the significant part for their day rooms is:
You can stay in the room only between 9am and 5pm.
