Carryon bin size on American Eagle?

Is the carryon bin on American Eagle the same size as on AA for transatlantic flights? I have not flown on American Eagle and am wondering if the 21" carryon I usually use will fit in these bins.

Which airplane type are you referring to? American Eagle flies ATR-72s, Bombardier CRJ700s, and Embraer ERJ-13X & 14Xs.

The ERJs are all 1+2 seating and a 21" carryon will need to be gate checked - the overhead bins are quite small.

The CRJ-700s are 2+2 seating and have bigger overhead bins that should fit a normal 21".

I'm not familiar with the ATR-72s, but I believe they are similar size as the CRJ.

AA flies many different plane types across the Atlantic, and the bin size can be very different - largest being on the 777 to 757 next, to the smallest bins being those on the old 767s. All will fit a 21" carryon, but I've seen the bins on the old 767 cabins fill up fast. There is no standard size for transatlantic flights.

The overhead bins on the ATR's WILL NOT accomodate a 21" Roll-aboard. You have to Gate Check those.

Thank you both for the replies. I will rethink my packing!

Gate checking isn't a big deal at all. You drop leave your bag at the end of the ramp, close to the airplane door. Upon landing you pick it up in the same spot as you deplane.

When I'm using a small plane like these I will have a small duffel bag stuffed inside with the things I want on the plane with me. The rest of my stuff can go in the cargo hold.

Yeah. I'd certainly gate-check a bag on American Eagle. You get it about 4 minutes after landing, and it's not a big deal at all.

gomiki: definitely rethink your packing. DH and I will be flying AA next week and plan to gate check the 21" carry-ons for the American Eagle leg of the trip, and take our personal bags onboard. It's really no big deal - they unload gate-checked bags pretty quickly after landing.
