Carry-on size: is this a website typo?

From USairways

Carry-on baggage
Size requirements
Up to 51 in/129 cm (11 x 14 x 26 in or 28 x 35 x 66 cm)

26" carry-on? Can this be true?

That seems a trifle small, but still reasonable for a piece of carry-on luggage. Something longer than 26 inches is probably not going to fit wheels first into an overhead bin in economy class. I'd have to see the overhead bins on a USAirways flight to be certain. Unless you're going with some huge suitcase, maybe you're within the limits.

That seems a trifle large, and unreasonable for a piece of carry-on luggage. Something longer than 26 inches is probably not going to fit into an overhead bin in any class.

These rules definitely posted on the USAirways website. To me 11x14x26 is classified as a big suitcase.

We flew USAir on 4 flights in June. On all but one of the flights the FA were hauling off suitcases far smaller than this dimension and forcing them to be gate checked.

Jeff_Costa_Rica: "That seems a trifle small, " Huh? That is larger than most any airline I'm familair.

Most have a 9 x 14 x 21 (or sometimes 22) limit.

FainaAgain: I'd sure double check on that, it seems awfully large to me - but I've never flown USA.

You're right. I just measured and mine is 21" x 14" x 9. It's perfectly adequate for me. I've seen people board with bags bigger than mine though.

Maybe I misinterpreted Faina's original post. I thought you were saying those dimensions were too small for you. That's not what you meant, is it?

Seems to me that the 'catch' is the 14', which is thin. I don't think any 26' baggage is only 14' wide (mine is 18'), but 11' high is OK.

So the 26' is unrealistic with the total of 51'.

Some airlines only publish a overall linear dimension anyways. Like Continental, which is 51". So, nothing special about what USAirways says.

And let me give you one example of an item benefits from this - violin case, as I play the violin. Most are about 31" long, but the other dimensions are well within the other limits.

Somebody on the US board asked this question, and 26" seem too large (HUGE!!) to be a carry-on. I hope, it's a typo

I don't think I even have a 26"! My largest is 24" and only when we both share it.

US Airways allows 40lbs/45in linear for carry-on.

Got this from http://airlinealacarte.com

Why would someone rely on a 3rd party site with 2nd hand (or worse) information when USAirways clearly say they allow 51" on board, as clearly stated in the link in the very first reply in this thread?

It says up to 51" (max) so a 11x14x26 would more than likely be a foldover garment bag type rather than a bag with wheels which in most cases are thicker than 14".

If anyone has a 26" bag, please give us its measurements.
