I have been flying Delta for 30 years or more out of GSO and also have never heard it referred to as "Big D". I thought he was talking about Dallas, or possibly Detroit.

My first thought on seeing the Big D was how does radio station WDRC (with a Big D) merit the Air Travel Foru?

"Big D" was a deliberate attempt at making the name of the airline obscure. We also fly out of Atlanta weekly... or more.

But - To the one poster who said, "Rather, never reached a Delta facility which could actually answer." - Good point.

Another case of the American public and thinking that it is "all about me".
FYI-The weather departments of all airlines try and pinpoint ahead of time when really bad weather will be hitting. They advise the companies to reposition the aircraft;make sure that the crews can be repositioned;add extra staffing, etc. However, airlines have only a certain amount of people scheduled to work various shifts in all departments-when horrendous weather hits they do all they can to overman the needed rerouting but there are only so many people who can do it.
As an airline employee of 38 years,I think that the American public needs to understand all that it entails to keep the airline going during really horrendous weather whether it be massive snowstorms, tornadoes or even terrorist activities overseas!
