For smaller domestic airports, I love Louisville (SDF), Kentucky. It's got a nice bar for sampling lovely aged bourbons not usually found outside of Kentucky. It's well-laid out, not too big, and often more reasonably priced to fly into, compared to Indianapolis and Cincinnati, each of which is about 2 hours away.<BR><BR>I also love the Milwaukee airport because it's a MidWest Express hub, my favorite airline. There's a terrific little bookstore in the terminal that specializes in out-of-print books, so it's perfect for all of those collectors and bibliphiles out there. <BR><BR>I like flying into Hartsfield in Atlanta when I have a long layover because I enjoy browsing their art gallery in the international concourse. And though it's infamous for its delays, it's pretty amazing just how many aircraft are in and out of there on an hourly basis.<BR><BR>MSY in New Orleans has some of the best airport food I've ever experienced.

Hong kong effortlessly the best there is! I had to spend 12 hours there & while the thought of spending that long in Heathrow, CDG or LA airports would make you shudder it flew by in HK! Huge variety of shopping & food, free internet access & a great lounge with beautiful showers, massage chairs, delicious foods, movies etc that anyone can pay a nominal fee to use!

My idea of the perfect airport is one where you get out of your ground transportation and walk a few steps to the terminal, a few more steps to ticketing, a couple more steps through security and then a couple more to the waiting area, and then an easy schlepp to the plane.<BR><BR>Of the big airports, LAX is least offensive-- but I never spend much time there. I usually get in, check in, get on the plane-- no muss, no fuss. The terminals are quite compact in size, with gates (and connections) very close, which is a big plus.<BR><BR>I love flying in and out of Long Beach (LGB), since it's like taking a trip back in time to when you walk out onto the tarmac to the plane (no jet bridges at LGB!).<BR><BR>Still haven't flown out of Orange County (SNA), but I hear it's not too painful. I like Miami International (MIA) for not being painful either-- and, for that matter, Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) wasn't too bad either.<BR><BR>On the flip side, O'Hare (ORD) is nightmarish, if only for the inevitability of either missing a connection or losing luggage in the connection due to weather and the endless circling, waiting for a landing slot. And a Wolfgang Puck resto...? Whoop-dee-frickin'-doo-- he opens those everywhere.<BR><BR>Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW) is just a huge pain to fly through-- eeww.<BR><BR>Pittsburgh International (PIT) just bugs me-- all depressing concrete, no windows in the main concourse, I feel like one of the Mole People in there.

Merida, Venezuela. Flying in your wing tips are almost touching the mountains. Flying out the plane has to reverse until it's tail is over the perimeter fence (shortish runway), accelerate like a rocket and then climb almost vertically to clear the mountains. Tip, don't open mints while climbing steeply - mine all rolled to the back of the plane. In America, flying Continental through Houston the city always seems to appear like a dozen sky scrapers in a field.

Dave is right. Changi Airport in Singapore has been voted the best in the world by many polls of frequent travelers, and for good reason. It is the most efficient operation in the world. I live in Singapore, travel in and out of here frequently, at various times of day and days of the week and I have never seen a security line like the ones that are all too common in the US and elsewhere. That doesn't mean the security isn't excellent. They have just figured out how to do it right, without inconveniencing every single traveler.

West Palm Beach. (PBI) I don't know why, maybe it is something in the air but it by far the best airport I have been to in the United States, if not the world. Detroit Metro (the NWA terminal) is an easy 2nd but PBI is by far the best. If you have any insight to WHY it is, post it! The right service, frequent, big planes, easy terminal, GREAT skycaps?

I'm not sure what "best" is based on but...
Auckland, New Zealand. The place was laid out like a bunch of little living rooms in the terminal we were in. Most relaxing and comfortable airport I've ever been in.

Saba, Dutch West Indies. You'd have to search the world over to find an easier airport to get in and out of.
As for larger domestic airports, I was very impressed with the organization and ease of use at Orlando International.

The Northwest World Gateway at Detroit Metropolitan Airport is the best. Big and airy with lots of natural light coming thru the vaulted glass ceiling. It's well-designed, with an express tram to zoom you to the far-flung ends of the mile-long main concourse. It's got plenty of good food, including Middle Eastern, Japanese, deep dish pizza, Coney Island and so on. It has a Chili's, an On-Line Bar & Grill where you can eat and web surf, and a fantastic Westin hotel right in the terminal.
The water fountain in the center of the main concourse is mesmerizing. Stores include Brooks Brothers, Harley Davidson and Ora Oxygen, where you can get a massage. You almost never want to leave the airport! (How often can U say that?)
