Aeroflot airlines

Is anyone familiar with Aeroflot Airlines of Russia? They are a new codeshare partner of NW and my husband and I are using our frequent flier miles to fly from Los Angeles to Munich via Moscow in the fall using Aeroflot.

It used to have a bad reputation for safety, but I think the situation has improved somewhat. Several of my colleagues fly Aeroflot fairly often. It's not their favourite airline, but no one has had a mishap yet. Here is a link to a recent article:

Thanks for the info and article. I've also been reading that their safety record has improved dramatically so I'm not too concerned about that. I'm wondering if anyone has flown the LAX - Moscow leg and their thoughts on the trip - movies, seats, food, etc.

I hope they don't allow smoking in the cabin any more, and I hope their luggage handling has improved.

According to its website, Aeroflot went non-smoking in 2002.

It's interesting to note in its FAQs that they give out nicotine chewing gum to passengers.

Why didn't you use codeshare partner Delta nonstop LAX to JFK or ATL and then Delta nonstop to Moscow? I flew Aeroflot in the 70's and that was when it had a bad reputation. I think that it had to improve itself in order to become part of the Skyteam grouping.

Believe me - there was nothing available on any other code share partner (Air France, Czech Airlines, Continental, etc., etc.). I called daily for almost 3 weeks as I've found there are definetely some reservationists that are willing to go the extra mile and work harder to secure a reservation. Two reservationists told me what I was looking for (traveling on a weekend) would be impossible but persistence did pay off when there was availbility found on Aeroflot. The research I've done seems to confirm that they are a comparable airline so will report my findings when we return.
