What clothing is good for Zanzibar

Wife and I are going in August and she wants to know what to wear when going to restaurants at night or visiting Stonetown. Staying at Nungwi.

Thnaks

I found it to be pretty casual at least the places I visited were. I was there in June & it was hot & humid so light clothing would be a good idea.

Out of respect for the Muslim community I only wore shorts at the beach and never in town. Kept to capris or long skirts, my shoulders always covered and no cleavage.

At your resort just about anything goes, but no topless.
In Stone Town, I'm with KathBC... be respectful of the Muslim community, little exposed skin where skirt, crop pants and tops that have at minimum short sleeve. But for sure you don't have to 'dress' - nice casual summer-type attire as even nights will be warm to hot. Have a shawl/pashmina for restaurant that might have a/c. And, do wear comfy shoes as ground in uneven and rather dirty.

Casual smart would be the best. Take note Zanzibar is a muslim town so wearing clothes that are too revealing will be offensive to the locals.

I just wanna add that if you are going off the beach and away from resorts/ hotels, you might want to (especially girls) clothes that covers both knees and shoulders of respect for the muslim inhabitants!

Zanzibar is so amazing, hope your trip was successful!

Expect it to be very, very hot! Stonetown is poorer that we expected. Lots of trash. But also lots of tourists.

Zanzibar town is a conservative Muslim town, so dress light and covering most of your body, inside hotels and their respective beaches its quite open and ready to accommodate you as you are
