Where to in Serengeti?
Planning to explore the iconic land of Serengeti next year probably some time around June. But we're looking into doing things on our own instead of relying everything with a travel operator. Do you think this is possible or is it better to just book with an operator? We read multiple forums and found that Serengeti is vast and is divided into "regions". Western Corridor is said to be excellent in June, with the migration coming to the area. Other than the wildebeests and zebras, can we see other wildlife? Like giraffes and elephants and possibly all other Big Five animals?

It’s true. The Serengeti is divided into regions, each with distinct features and wonder. The Western Corridor is known to be the starting point of the dramatic river crossings of the Great Migration, which is why it is an excellent place to visit in June. But you don’t have to worry about the variety of wildlife because apart from the migratory animals, other common animal sightings in the Western Corridor are elephants, giraffes, buffalos, leopards, elands, impalas, topi antelopes, hartebeests, waterbucks, Thomson gazelles and even big cats and hyenas. The region is also home to a scenic view made of valleys and plains, Grumeti river running across, and hills on both sides.
About whether to book with a tour operator or plan things on your own, my take would be to do both. In Tanzania, it is more convenient to book with a tour operator. However, this doesn’t mean you can just skip doing research as this could help you and your tour operator “reach” your travel goals. When visiting Serengeti in June, it is still very possible to be able to explore other regions like the Seronera which is wildlife-abundant all year-round. Other sites in the Serengeti that you must consider visiting are here - read for comprehensive info.
Cheers!

Well your best bet in June is northern Serengeti, where you can see river crossings on the mara river in Tanzania. There are high priced expensive as well as medium price and low price camping accomodation available, as per your budget. Minimum per person lowest would be 300 USD, and going upto 2000 Plus usd per person per night,as the per day fees for entry are very high in Serengeti
