Tanzania Self Drive June 2015

Hello

I am struggeling to book private campsites in the Serengeti. Can someone please help? We want to camp near Moru Kopjes, Seronera, Gumetri. What happens if we book a campsite and when we get there the Wildebeest is not there?

Another thing that I still need. We want to camp somewhere close to the gate of Serengeti from Ngorongo side can someone suggest something?

Your help would be much appeciated!

Hey ,Lutri

If you will be travelling there around June -July Most of the wildebeest group is available in Grumeti area so no need for you to camp in other places , i was there in last year in 12th June , i was doing 7 days basic camping safari in Serengeti /Ngorongoro /Manyara . And during that time when i was there most of the animals was along the grumeti river because in that time animals are searching for water and grasses , so i camped at grumeti river campsite. I used swahili paradise tours at this link here www.swaptours.web.com they provided almost everything i was planned in that time and regarding camping gears were good ( fore axample the tent was big enough to put all my luggages and even to stand inside when i woke up from the sleeping bag ) .

And the nearest campsite at Serengeti's gate from Ngorongoro direction , it'

The near campsite there is Nabi Hill Serengeti Green Camp . And in case if the wildebeest will not be near to the grumeti camp you could ask the driver to bring you closest location where the animals are allocated during that time , because the animals are not stay still .

Hi there!

One can't be too sure on where the migration will be in a certain month. This year has been very dry, no rain in Ndutu and Seronera since mid Feb up to now, and this led to a change in the migratory pattern. The big herds were supposed to gather around Ndutu area (short grass plains of southern serengeti) until April after calving season in order to allow the newborns to grow big enough to follow them up north, but food shortage made the herds scatter into small groups who are now randming in search of pasture, some have already reached Lobo, some others Grumeti, some are in Seronera, but as per last wek no wildebeest was around Ndutu. They left many newborns behind, easy prays for cats, the groups you can now spot around Seronera or Western Serengeti have almost no calves. Now I've heard it has started raining, they will come baco to the south and if rain and pasture will be abundant there they will delay their departure to the west and the north. This is just to say that if you really want to see the migration you should stay in at least 2 or 3 locations in the Serengeti. Being June these should be Seronera, Western and - if you want to be on the safest side - Grumeti Controlled Area (just out of Ikoma Gate).
Cheers,
Oliver
