Victoria Falls Water Levels Dec 15 2019

We are scheduled to be at the Falls Dec 15, 2019. We saw a report on US news last evening that water fall has slowed to a trickle.
any info from anyone would be appreciated. We are scheduled to be on both Zimbabwe and Zambia. Would it make a difference?
Thanks for anticipated reponse........

The drought has been epic this year in Botswana and Zimbabwe. Friends of mine in Zimbabwe last month abandoned their photographic journey to rescue dying baby elephants stuck in the mud and distributing grass and hay brought in by the aid agencies to feed hundreds of animals dying of thirst and hunger. It’s a dire situation (google for news articles about the hundreds of animals dying due to the drought ) but both countries seem to have gotten a bit of rain recently. I’m not sure it’s enough to have the Falls flowing the way they might in high water season though, but that’s the risk of visiting during dry season. Flow is normally very light this time of year.

Yes, I’ve read reports about the drought that has reduced flow over Vic Falls recently. November, when I was there several years ago, is the end of the dry season when the falls are least impressive, but at least mist doesn’t reduce visibility. Rains in December and January should help the situation, but perhaps not in time for your visit. Nevertheless, Vic Falls is an impressive sight. My daughter and son-in-law took a microlight flight over the falls in their separate visit.

Enjoy your trip! I am off to Southern Africa myself next week, staying in with in-laws in Cape Town for Christmas and New Year.

Here is a youtube of the Falls as done by Sky News from London last week.

It does not look good.

Also Kruger has an acute drought also and animals are dying and grazing animals needs to be fed by bales of hay.

Vaessa Nielsen, who lives in Zimbabwe, posted photos and a video of the falls on Facebook, taken this 7th December. Check it out and see for yourself.
Not dry at all!

Thanks MyriamC
I read all the reports on Facebook and felt like I was reading a political thread.

Never can seem to agree on the water levels, not the media, not the hotels and not the visitors either

The local government authority seems to have mixed views also !!

Thanks for telling me about Facebook

Here's a screenshot from Vanessa's page. We must not forget that's it's the dry season over there.
