Tour of Petra and Desert

My husband and I are going on the Silver Sea Egypt cruise in October and want to take a tour of Petra and the Wadi Rum desert. The ship has not confirmed that they will offer this. We get into Aqaba Sunday at 8am and leave Monday at 6pm. What is the best tour for this time frame? We are not opposed to staying in Petra overnight. Has anyone had an experience with Petra Travel and Tourism which runs packages for a tour of Petra one day and a short desert tour the next for $245 per person with overnight in Petra?

I'm not familiar with that tour operator, but the price is good. Which hotel are they using in Petra? There a few lovely hotels in Petra (5* in fact). And I'm sure you'll have some meals included in that amount - breakfast, at least second day - but check about lunch and dinner the night you stay over. Otherwise, I'm sure the hotel has offerings and there are local restaurants nearby and cost can't be much.

We did a mini-Jordan trip on way to Egypt and paid about that but we stayed at a "no-star" airport hotel, though clean and since we were out all day was no matter. Did a full day to Petra and next day Jerash and Amman before heading to Egypt.

The price is good, but check the hotel and meals included - otherwise, go for it!

Further to above response I remember the names of two hotels - the Movenpick is at the entrance of Petra and easy to get to see the sunrise or stay late and see sunset.

Another is the Taybet Zaman (sp) a bit of a distance away, but amazingly beautiful, small, reconstructed from an old ruined city/town under the auspices of Queen Noor who tho a Queen received her degree in architecture.

See which one the tour operator might offer.

We stayed at Taybet Zeman--it was exotically lovely, and the food was good.

I think you got a great deal on that tour. I will be going to Israel and then to Petra. I am paying $300 for the Petra Portion. We are going to Masadah and also another place in Israel called, Eilat(more of beach resort), it's supposed to be very nice. Then we are headed to Petra for one night. My parents took the Egypt cruise and they loved it. I wish you and your husband a wonderful trip.

Did you take a tour with Petra Travel? If so, what did you think about them? I have looked at their web page on a link from the Jordan Air site and wondered about a tour with them.

My wife and I have done a 10 day tour of Jordan with Petra. Can't praise their organization, efficiency, friendliness and courtesy highly enough! We're now looking at getting them to organize a trip to Syria for us by road from Jordan, such is our confidence.

Great thread: anyone can suggest the cheapest airline to fly to Jordan from Midwest. Seems that the current air ticket prices are simply over the top!

Thanks all!
