Safari & Beach Honeymoon
Hi,
We are looking for some suggestions for a Safari & Beach Honeymoon in Africa. We are looking at going in July of 2012 and would like any help. We had looking into Seychelles and Kenya, but weren't quite sure about the logistics, if anyone has any other suggestions please let us know.
Thanks

I know nothing, BUT they went to the Seychelles on Amazing Race last year and it was so gorgeous it got me looking into it as a vacation destination.
If you want something a little more on the funky side (as opposed to posh beach resort), you should look into Lamu.

Congratulations on your honeymoon plans!
Easy: do Kenya - Masai Mara is perfect in July during the Migration, then fly direcly to Alfajiri Villas on Diani Beach (finest villas in East Africa) for some superb and deluxe R&R. There is daily air service from Masai Mara to Ukunda airstrip (5 mintues from the villas) http://www.alfajirivillas.com/
Enjoy your planning!

There are alternate day flights from NBO to SEZ on Kenyan Air. Depending on how many days for safari, if only 4-5, thenn visit the Masai Mara and the coordinate flight to the Seychelles. But if returning home from SEZ, check flight from SEZ via somewhere in Europe back to home... fares can be quite high. While the SEZ are beautiful, lodging here tends to be very expensive.
As mkulove mentions, there are some beautiful beach resorts on the Kenyan coast, Alfajiri being one, but also Kinondo Kwetu both on the Diani Coast south of Mombasa. There's also Lamu and Manda Islands north of Mombasa and very remote and romantic.

Hi there,
Congrats on your honeymoon! For a beach resort, I highly recommend Ras Kutani on the shores of Tanzania. It is a stunning property in a beautiful location. The staff is very helpful and friendly and will treat you like royalty. You can visit their website to find photos of the beach and rooms. http://www.selous.com/ras-kutani. Ras Kutani is located very close to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania so you may fly straight into Dar and be transported directly to the lodge. If you travel to Tanzania in July you should try to get up to Kenya to the Masai Mara to catch the great wildebeest migration. My absolute favorite camp is located there- Mara Bushtops. This tented camp is the definition of luxury. Beautiful in its seclusion and privacy, perfect for a honeymoon! The website for this camp is http://www.orion-hotels.net/. Good luck with your planning, I hope you have a wonderful time there!

Ras Kutani is lovely, but if you're focusing on Kenya's Masai Mara, it's a long trek to get down to RK. Like different country where you'd require another Visa, also a Yellow Fever Inoculation (which bye the way you will require if going to the SEZ from Kenya). Also, even if flying from NBO to DAR, the road trip to RK is torturous, so the short flight should be considered and then back home from ? DAR or NBO?
Why, if visiting Kenya, seriously consider the Kenyan coast with many outstanding choices for R&R (rest and romance).

Hey, congratulations on your honeymoon plans!
For a honeymoon, try the Kenyan Coast. Been to this hotel known as Majlis Resort, on Manda Island, in Lamu. You can fly from Nairobi to Lamu then take a speedboat to Manda Island (about 10 mins). The hotel is on a quiet, clean beach, great food and has great offers for honeymooners, including sunset sailing just the two of you sipping wine in the Ras Kitau bay. Oooh plus cant forget their cocktails!!! They were the best!
Moreover, they can organise a day safari to Lake Kenyatta an area of pristine indigenous bush, rich in wildlife.

If you like the look of Ras Kutani, you might also like one of their sister properties -- Jongomero or Selous Safari Camp, both in southern Tanzania. They usually offer a very nice deal if you combine two or more of their properties. Earlier this year we got all our internal air fare for free by booking Jongomero and Selous Safari. Both are superb camps and would be perfect for a honeymoon. Congratulations.

I'm going to throw a completely different alternative in!
Have you though about combining Kruger area with Mozambique?
We did that this summer, and both the safari and the beach stay were great (and both locations are a mere 1,5 hours apart from each other).
On Mozambique we took Nyati beach lodge; pure paradise. We had 15km's of unspoilt beach for ...8 guests!
I'm doing my trip reports right now at a rate of one lodge per week. Four lodges in Kruger, and one (Nyati) in Moz, and the first report is already posted. So you'll need a bit of patience to get all the details & see some pics.
Ciao,
J.
