Rosebank - Johannesberg

Is this a nice area of JHB to spend a couple of nights?

Yes it is. I stayed at The Grace Hotel a few years ago and loved it. It's not inexpensive, though. I only stayed for one night.

Yes. And since this week there is even a new "sight" in Oxford Road: http://tinyurl.com/68ctqy

But you'll need to visit soon, before they fix it.

i was on business and stayed at the park hyatt which was very nice and comfortable. close to the rosebank mall (just opposite) and some restaurants in the neighborhood. despite there is construction going on (they are building enhancing the infrastructure for the 2010 fifa worldcup - if i recollect correctly they are buildung a tube) it was very pleasant stay.

Rosebank is my favorite area for a stay in Jo'burg. Last time we were there we stayed at the Rosebank Don. Spacious, not very expensive, and the rooms have a little kitchen area too.

Ruben,

We stayed there last June while my wife was at a conference at the Rosebank Hotel before we went on safari. The area is pretty nice and the mall is convenient. The mall has a pretty nice African market and if you're there on Sunday they have a big market on the top floors of the parking garage. Some of it's junk but there is a lot of nice Africa craft and art items at reasonable prices. As for the Rosebank Hotel, they closed for renovations right after we were there and I understand they're getting ready to reopen if they haven't already. The prices used to be reasonable but I'm sure they've taken a huge jump with this renovation.

We stayed at the Courtyard Rosebank for 2 nights when we were in JHB last year. They have all types of accomodations, and we enjoyed being able to get a 2-BR suite here. They've got a complimentary happy hour in the evening which is nice. The hotel is just across the street from the Mall (you walk on a pedestrian bridge to cross the road, which was under construction while we were there.) The Mall has lots of shops, restaurants and a supermarket.
The staff was friendly and helpful to us and we felt perfectly safe there.
