Hi,
We stayed twice at Olive Grove Guesthouse and loved it. Kind of a boutique style place, really pretty, nice food. The owners and staff were really friendly and helpful.

Another vote for the Heinitzburg. Stayed there in "03 and will again on a trip this year. The restaurant is very good and the accommodations more than comfortable and of course a great view of the city below. If you are ok with hills, it's an easy walk into town.

Hi panecott,
Olive Grove is in a nice area of Windhoek. If I remember correctly it's in the north-east quarter of the city. We stopped over there on two different nights - once on our way back from Etosha before catching an early morning flight to the Caprivi strip, and once on the way back from Caprivi before an early flight to the Sossusvlei area. It was a great stopover choice and we liked the small scale, lovely decor and attention to detail of the place.
I don't know about walkable, as we were driving, and obviously it depends where you would be walking from!

Thanks, hanl.
I'm not familiar with the area but I had the impression that it was outside of town and was wondering if it's walkable to the center of town.
I'm also under the impression that Windhoek is rather small and easy to get around on foot. Not sure where I got this impression but am I wrong about this?
I'm just there overnight and would like to see a bit of Windhoek while I'm there.
The Olive Grove does look lovely on the website.

Hi,
I have stayed a variety of hotels in Windhoek including the Hotel Heinitzburg, and I think it is a good choice. The Windhoek Country Club Resort and the Safari Court are also good "American style" hotels. They are next to the Eros airport (not the Windhoek international airport!) about 5 minutes from the city centre, and both places run frequent shuttles into town. The Villa Verdi in Windhoek is a good choice if you are looking for something that is a little less expensive, but they don't have much of a restaurant, and the Kalahari Sands is right on the main street and within easy walking distance of everything.

Hi Mollybee.
I will suggest that if you planning to travel to Namibia in August to start reservations as soon as possible. Its one of the highseason months in Namibia and accommodation in popular areas like Sossusvlei and Etosha can be very full allready. As far as accommodation in Windhoek goes, it really depends on what you are looking for, in price range and in terms of luxury. Heinitzburg is great.., they are central and very luxurious and upmarket and small so its not a big hotel experience. If you want something that is still luxurious but slightly more economical, the Olive Grove is a great option.
Let me know if you have any further questions,
