Kenya Visa

Has anyone heard any updates on the Visa lowering from $50 to $25? I still can't find any websites that list the change and would like to send it in. Thanks a bunch.

Most people get their visa at the airport if they are flying into Nairobi. It is easy...hand over $50 (US currency only) and they paste it into your passport. You do need empty page.

Last week there was a post stating that the lowering won't be realisable as planned due to some kind of bureaucracy. But that post was pretty close to April 1st.

I don't think the new Visa fee will attract additional people into Kenya who didn't think of it earlier ;-)

So just be prepared to pay 50 and celebrate madly if only asked for 25 ;-)

Be prepared with USD$50 on arrival at the Visa (to purchase desk) and if the guy asks for USD$25... whoopie!

It's never taken me any longer than 10/min to get a Visa on arrival; often even less. Regardless, the queue for those who already have Visas can be longer than for those who need to purchase. No big deal, you still have to wait for your luggage to get off the plane, so might as well have something to do in the meantime.

Avoid the USD$100 bills, which regularly aren't accepted; seems the Africans feel these are easily conterfeited. Stick with $50s, $20s, $10s, $5s. No older than 5/years (dated 2004 or later), not torn, folded, stapled, taped or having been washed in your jeans.

Donn't sweat it.

When we were there in March, I noticed that everybody paid with a new $50 bill.

Update: I purchased a Visa upon arrival at the Nairobi airport on May 2nd and paid $25.00! There was a line and I waited maybe 15 minutes.

Lower rate of $25/person was due to go into effect in April, but in actuality it didn't happen on-the-ground till May.

Great info, folks!

Does this Visa desk have any office hours? Or it's open as long as the airport and custom is open? We might be arriving at 1am , will that be a porblem to get the Visa?

Thanks!

I have not heard of this, i thought you had to get a visa in advance which is a pain living without my passport for a week. I don't care whether its 25 or 50 USD but can we honestly just get a visa at the airport?

Last July when we arrived in the evening, it took almost an hour to get our visa. I guess too many 777/747's landed at the same time. I wouldn't worry about the visa desk being closed when you arrive. In my experience, collecting fees is always a priority ; .

No, the people who have told you about their own experiences in this and a hundred other, similar threads were just making it up.
