"I think I could be persuaded to try just about any veggie dish, though." -schlegal1

Elephant dung would be interesting . I once watched a guide stick his finger in some fairly fresh dung and taste it, to 'better judge' when the ellie had passed (pun not intended) that way. Yes, somebody fell for it. They hadn't noticed the guide quickly swapping fingers before putting it in his mouth.

Wayne, you'd be amazed what people will fall for. I've seen people believe that the president of Botswana arranges for bundles of grass to be tied to tree branches to feed giraffes (his 'totem') in times of drought

I´ve eaten brain (cow, sheap) at my relatives in Palestine a couple of times.

Besides that, filled intestines is a common dish in Palestine, and it is really good, if you clean it well

Rima, you should point out that the original filling is taken out of the intestines and replaced with something tastier ;-)

What I can think of offhand:
Rat (needs a lot of chilli), live shrimp (disgusting sensation and concept), a pig's innards consomme soup (just say no), red ant egg salad(okay with plenty of seasoning, not without), fried grasshoppers (greasy), bull's penis (okay if you don't think) and sheep testicles (only if you're feeling macho).

Vegetarian menu:
Flowers (just that - weird and not at all tasty)

Conclusion: There is a reason why more people don't eat these foods.

Octopus - off the coast of Turkey

Not so much the food but the prep.
Our Turkish gaulet captain out waited the rather large beast hiding under a rock.

Once it was speared our deck mate beat it repeatedly over and over on a rock - much to our astonishment as this was such a gruesome sight. We thought the guy had lost his mind - perhaps he was angered that this thing had alluded them all day - who knew.

Once onboard he explained that he was marinating it - He said one must beat it on a rock 51 times, not 50 and never 52, he said.

The very tender octopus slowly cooked in tomato sauce was superb.

Oh my. I feel like such a sheltered person with some of these lists. I've had some pretty varied meats but I've stayed away from most organs (although my boyfriend's aunt makes a mean haggis - she wraps it up in a pastry minus the stomach lining although I guess its not 'real' haggis then). I should also mention that it has to be cooked or I'll have a lot of questions before it goes near my mouth. Definately looking forward to going to Carnivore in Kenya now. It should up my list of tried and tested meats.

Keep it coming,
Juliet

Juliet.

OK, I'll keep it coming. I've been to the Carnivore, long ago, and tried such things as warthog, ostrich and impala. None of them impressed me much, but I suspect that was as much to do with the cooking as anything else. Just about anything can be made most enjoyable if it is done well (and I must admit, sometimes if you are not told what you are eating ). I had eland once at a safari camp...I could have soled my boots with it, but only because the cook didn't have a clue how to tenderise. It was the only safari meal I haven't finished.
